they are taking down ALL of the street signs in the city?!?!?!?!?!?!?
dh read an artivle b/c they think it will cut down on terrorism b/c they wont know where to go.
Um.......... i NEED those signs to know where I am going!!!
I am seriously panicking over this!
etA: also, taking away subway station names and putting up generic "Station Stop" signs.
as well as tkaing away hte color codes of all subways.

I don't think terrorists will say "Darn now we can't bomb this subway b/c we don't know where it is." I think they'd go ahead and bomb any one of them or a building. They didn't need street signs to find the twin towers. I really hope that's not for real.

This just does NOT seem effective to me. The terrorists that we fear most are patient and well informed. They will count the blocks, they will know the buildings and the surrounding areas. I can not see this being a deterrent at ALL.

I don't think this is a real article. There is nothing anywhere else. Not on nyc.gov, not on an other paper. This may be a fictitious "funny" story...since it's a "blog" on the paper's site. I don't know.

i just read it too. i cant believe they also want to get rid of the Subway Station names!
ok, yeah, right, so a terrorist isnt going to ride the trsain first to figure out where Penn Station is?!?!? Of course he will!!!
i am SO mad about this.
They are supposed to tkae away all signs in the ohter boroughs as well. (except isolated parts of staten island)

There is no way they would take down all the signs in the city. The article has to be fake. Think about it - the expense for them to this, the fact that it's tourist season in the city, how would ambulances, fire departments get around - they would just remember what street they're on???

Exactly, that article is in the "counterfit detection" part of the NY Press site.
Also as a precaution some street signs are removed along the route of the Thanksgiving Day parade.

I can't beleive they actually think this would be a deterrent, this has to be some sarcastic joke. Like some rogue terrorists will ride the rails aimlessly because the station is not marked.
Umm hello, they will ask someone how to get to Times Square like every other tourists standing in Times Square!
