I give mine a coating of vaseline and that seems to help, this warm weather will speed up the rotting process open or not

We carved one last week that got disgusting in less then 3 days. I was told it was because I left it inside.
So we carved 2 more this past weekend and put them out on the front stoop. They seem to be holding up.

if you have the time/patience... slather the carved parts with vaseline and put them in the fridge when not "on display"
that will slow down the rotting process.

No matter what you do, a carved pumpkin won't last more than a week. I've tried it all - soaking them in the tub, vaseline, fridge - they still rot or collapse after five or six days.
Now, I carve them the weekend before Halloween to be safe.
