Did anyone take a year off from work then go back?? daycare and age question

i am taking the year off from work (school librarian) and working p/t. i feel lucky to be able to do this DD is 10 wks old. there is a part of me that feels sad too about not going back to work too b/c i do love my job. i feel bad about that. my Chat Icon to you is was it excrutiating after a year to leave your DC in daycare when they are older? i am thinking DD is so young right now she wouldn't even know. next year she will know me and be aware. for those of you who put your DC in daycare later on was it really rough? i just can't imagine it. TIA! Chat Icon

I am in the same situation! My ds is 4 months old and i am a teacher taking off the year. I figured it is better this way. I'd rather put him into daycare a year from now when he's walking and able to socialize better than right now. Then you can think of it as you are sending him off to school....really, really young!

I had a year off of work and it was absolutely fine to leave him in daycare, he was older and was able to get into it right away, he was outside of the big separation anxiety problems and to be honest, from the 3/4 day in, he never looked back to say bye bye to me. I would have struggled to put him into daycare any earlier...

My DD was almost 8 months when I went back which is supposed to be the start of seperaton anxiety. She took to it right away and doesn't even look back when we leave. I am sure at 12 or 13 months it will be hard but not as hard as it would be to leave a 3 or 4 month old. I think those moms have it the roughestChat Icon

I took a year off with my first and we had no issues with him transitioning to daycare when I went back. He LOVED it!

I was off for a year and the hardest part was just getting the routine down. I personally was ready to go back to work. The first 2-3 weeks was tough but it turned out to be great.

I'm teacher as well. I worked for 2 weeks last year and then left on maternity leave. I am returning to work on Tuesday after being home with them for almost 11 months. I have mixed feelings about going back to work. I am happy to have an adult conversation, but on the other hand, I feel like I will be missing the better part of their day.

I am grateful for the fact I do not have to bring them to the babysitter in the morning, I think that would be a difficult situation for me. I can't wait to see them at 2:45. Chat Icon

Good luck with your decision. I would think about it now, enjoy the time you have with her.Chat Icon
