I delivered there 3 months ago. Bring shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, and toothpaste. They gave me slipper socks, towels, chucks, witch hazel pads, numbing spray, and a peri bottle.

Don't laugh lol but I brought Depends Silhouettes disposable underwear. Worked great to hold the chucks in place and you just throw them away so no worries if you get blood on them!

Re: Did anyone recently give birth at stonybrook?

Just gave birth Friday came home yesturday. They gave me pads, peri bottle, chucks, socks. I didn't get any lanisoh ( if your breast feeding), witch hazel pads or dermasol numbing spray. They gave then to me last baby I had there. The only thing I can think of is this was my third and I didn't tare or need stiches like other two times. You just have to ask for it I'm sure. So bring a nipple cream with you.
They give you ice packs too.
For baby they have diapers, cloths they use as wipes, little tee shirts, blankets, formula if your not breast feeding. The one thing they didn't give me was a pacifier. They won't give them to women BF. You might not want to use one but I wanted it for night time feedings. I had my husband bring me one. I wound up getting one because they use one when baby gets circumsized.
Make sure you bring all toiletries for the shower with you. Also bring big underwear you don't care about. I went abd bought a size larger then usual. If you deliver vaginally, they stick pads on to the chucks and you put that between your legs. I delivered in morning and couldn't take a shower for a while. Had an IV. So I had the gown that is all open and pad between my legs that is hard to move around with. So I put my big underwear over it so I could walk better. Especially I had vistors a few hours later.

There was so many babies born while I was in labor that I was on the anti pardum floor not post pardum. All the nurses had to come down to me and a few other girls. It was a baby explosion haha! Everyone was wonderful and I was very happy. The labor and delivery nurse was so fantastic!!! Good luck!!!

Another thing to bring. A little snack for night time. Granola bar or crackers. I totally forgot and didn't order extra food from dietary which closes at 7. I was so hungry my first night. With two kids home, my husband was hardly able to visit me. Only about 2 hours each day and not at night. Some gum or mints too.

Not sure when you had last baby but things have changed a lot over last few years. Even from two years ago when my middle son was born. The baby stays with you always. I think the two days I was there the only time he was taken away was for blood work my second night and his circumsion. They used to take baby a while after you deliver to the nursery but not anymore. Babies go right to your room and they bring the big warming cart into you to do heel stick and vitals. They even do baby bath in your room. One nurse said she would take him for a little bit if I wanted to sleep a little. I just kept him with me. It was pretty much like that with my two year old, but he for sure went to nursery after delivery to get checked out and didn't get bath in my room.

My first is five years old. I delivered at different hospital with him but it was so different. I think he was more out of my room then in with me and I remember them pushing me to take baby for the night.
