Did anyone have a newborn who nursed for only a few mins?
Sasha will be 3 weeks on Tuesday-- and she usually only nurses for like 7 to 9 mins, sometimes more, but this is her average. I know she is eating well since she gained 10 oz in a week, in her first week after we left the hospital-- and she def seems heavier and her face fuller. Also, when we do give her a bottle of breastmilk, she usually downs 3 oz., so I feel that is indicative of what she gets when she nurses. Although I do know that babies can overeat with the bottle.
I think my milk comes out pretty fast and I am patient with the feeding, burping, etc., so when she stops, I am pretty sure she is done. I know not every baby eats for 15 mins, but I can't help but be concerned. Again, waiting with baited breath for her next doc appt. I can't stop worrying!!

YES! My first DD, Madelyn would nurse VERY quickly. If she stayed on 10 minutes it was a long feeding. Right from the beginning she'd average about 5-7 minutes.
I know because I totally remember I posted about it too!

Re: Did anyone have a newborn who nursed for only a few mins?
I remember feeling EXACTLY the same way (re:what the books said). As long as she seems satisfied and has plenty of wet/dirty diapers she's getting enough.
Mind you, my kid would only nurse on ONE SIDE per feeding too- so I was as to how she could POSSIBLY be getting enough. But, she was as she gained sweight steadily.
Consider yourself lucky (I did). I remember my SIL and I BFing together at family gatherings/playdates (her son is 8 weeks older than DD) and she was so jealous that I wasn't tied to BFing for long periods of time.

yeah, she pees and poops like a champ! and it's rare when i do more than one side.
i feel like i take just as long though cause i try to make sure she is really done-- but when it looks like she has had gin instead of breastmilk-- i figure she is done.
thanks!

It sounds like you have a very efficient nurser on your hands which is great. My DD was like that and her longest feeding was 15 minutes but it was usually 10 and each feeding was only one side. I use to alternate breasts with each feeding.

I'm done nursing DD within 20 min, heck sometimes she'd only take one side and fall asleep!

Re: Did anyone have a newborn who nursed for only a few mins?
There were plenty of times where Aidan nursed for 10 minutes max. I used to get so worried and try to force him to take the other breast. However, the dr. said he was doing great and not to worry. Sounds like your little girl is very efficient!

At your DD's age she was going 2-2.5 hours like clockwork durning the day and then about 3-4 hours at night. I never woke her at night.
