Diaper and formula recommendations.....

What brand of formula or diapers do you use? What made you choose this brand? I feel like I am clueless.Chat Icon I heard good things about pampers swaddlers but I am so confused.

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

honestly - it's going to be a waiting game... you will see what diapers work for your DC.

We started with Pampers, that's what they used at the hospital (the swaddlers)... Pampers then made a change and the change didn't work well with our DD (she wound up with a rash).

Moved to huggies - she leaked out of them consistently enough to say forget it!

Tried Luvs - stuck with them for almost a year, then THEY changed and she started leaking out of them.

Tried Toys R Us diapers - like them, don't love them. Got them on a GREAT sale, so we give them to the sitter to use.

Fisher Price - using these currently, she has ZERO reactions to them & the overnights are fantastic!

it's all a matter of what's going to fit your child best...and it can & will change over time (as you can see above).

Formula - you have to again, go with what's best for your child. We used what the hospital gave us, switched to soy and then switched to regular after about 6 months....all based on the needs of our gal...

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

It's going to be trial and error.

Diapers....hospital used pampers swaddlers. We continued on this. We used huggies for a week and it leaked constantly, so we went back to pampers swaddlers.

As for formula. The hospital is going to introduce one brand and then send you home with it. If you experience problems, ask your pediatrician for recommendations. There are so many brands and styles of formula it will make you go nuts. Your child will tell you what is working and not through their cries.

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

we started on enfamil because its what we were given at hosptial, but we switched to target up and up around 3 months when all the samples were gone...to expensive and up and up is exactly the same...

as for diapers the only ones that we can use at night are pampers swaddlers,...during day we use babies r us, pampers dry baby, luvs, huggies, or target. We tried all these at night and he sleeps over 10 hours so he pees through them

everyone is different, you will find what works for you. Some people swear by things that dont work for others

Diapers I use pampers. I tried huggies and luv and they all leaked bad. But i think it is different for each person. Trial & error

Formula. I used Enfamil Newborn until 3 months then changed to Enfamil 0-12mons after that.

Trial and Error for sure. ESPECIALLY on formula.
Their stomachs are so sensitive at that age that they sometimes need to be switched several times to find the right formula.
I did use generic on all my formula though. The price was literally 1/2.

And some diapers work great for one baby and not great for the next.

i prefer pampers swaddlers. huggies consistently leak. i havent tried luvs. i am willing to mix and match though when stuff is on sale.

formula we started with similac advanced cause that's what was used in the NICU. it was fine at first but she got very gassy so i switched to enfamil gentlease. she did not like that one at all and we ended up going back to similac advance. she is still gassy but not as bad because i switched bottles too.

you just have to start somewhere and try a bunch of things to find out what works best for your baby. also try a bunch of different bottles because you never know which will be best for your baby.

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

DS2 is 3 weeks old - the Hospital used swaddlers size 1, but he was peeing out the back of them every night (he sleeps 6+ hrs at night) so I bought huggies size 1-2 and 7th generation size 1. They were the only diapers I found with elastic at the back and so far, NO leaks at all.

DS1 was in pampers babydry for 1 box - aka -until I realized how much cheaper BJs brand was. He was in BJs brand until he was mobile @ 8mos. They were too narrow for him at that point and he always had diaper wedgie. We switched to Luvs and we're still using them @ age 2.

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

We use Pampers Swaddlers and like them so far. And hopefully they continue to work because I am stocked on them for quite a while thanks to a nice sale Target had last week.

For formula right now DD is on Enfamil Gentlease. She started on Similac Advance in the hospital, but I switched her to Enfamil Newborn when we came home and now to Gentlease for gas.

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

I stocked up on all brands of diapers before DD came (with those delightful Amazon coupons) and they've all been fine for her so I don't regret it at all. I do have my "favorites" now, but all of them have worked for us. I think the Luvs are great for the price..

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

From a ped dietitian and a mom:

Diapers: I use pampers baby dry, but also find Target work well too.

Formula: I only recommend enfamil (being my first choice) or good start b/c Similac products do not meet the ADA, WHO, NIH & EU recommendations of DHA (rec. is .2% and above of fatty acids as DHA and Similac uses .15%, all others use .3%).

Why I prefer enfamil:
1. They are the only ones that have a formula fortified with vit D. The AAP changed their recommendations to 400IU of D b/c of the increase of rickets. A formula fed baby needs 34oz/day to meet D requirements. Enfamil newborn provides appropriate dose in 27oz.
2. DHA
3. Closest to BM with a changing whey to casesin ratio. (80/20 in newborn like early bm) and 60/40 in infant product like mature breast milk)
4. Does not add table sugar as second ingredient like Similac
5. I find that babies stay on enfamil more so than similar. I find a lot of similar babies have to switch to a tolerance product. Similac products are more casein which is the curd of milk...more difficult to digest
6. Good Start is 100% whey, unlike bm, but I like it better than Similac b/c of the DHA

DS2 is doing so well on the enfamil NB - thanks again! We were already on our 3rd formula at this point with DS1

Re: Diaper and formula recommendations.....

we did similac advanced because that is what they gave DS in the hospital and i didn't wnat to mess with it.

we started off with huggies. then because of money, we switched to costco brand. and now i like them even more than huggies!

you'll see what you like and go from there.
