DH wants an espresso maker ....
for Christmas. Please recommend yours and approximate price (if you know).
Being the Italian that he is, DH is very picky about his espresso, so I would be looking for one that is very good quality.
Thanks!!!

Re: DH wants an espresso maker ....
If he wants an espresso machine - I recommend the DeLonghi. I just looked at BBB and they start at around $200 and go up to $2500 LOL DeLonghi
I personally prefer the stove top Bialetti. It doesn't give you the foam stuff on the top BUT I like the taste better. Stove top Bialetti
In my search, I found this - HOW CUTE IS THIS!!!! Bialetti Machine
For DH, for Christmas - I have been researching combination models since he drinks espresso and American coffee and we are short on counter space:
DeLonghi Combo
Krups Combo

I agree with the stove-top Bialetti.
We bought this one for my brother when we were in Italy this summer. Bialetti makes it.
My SIL is not a big espresso drinker, so this is perfect for my brother in the evenings after dinner. He can brew a cup on the stove top just for himself.

DON'T DO A COMBO!!!!!
they cannot make an espresso worth a damn. dh spent good money for me one christmas getting me a combo machine and it was awful.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.
if you want to spend money, I'd go with an automatic Delonghi or a Jura.
if you want a pretty good cup that will come with a learning curve, give this model a try.
De'Longhi Bar 32
it accepts both the pods and regular espresso. dh thru a little trial and error has become an expert. but it's inexpensive and it can make a really good one...as long as the maker can get the water to coffee ratio right. but once you get it, it's pretty much like riding a bike.
it's inexpensive b/c it's mostly manual, but the pump is powerful and the water gets sufficiently heated to make a good espresso (a major problem with most machines, including the aforementioned combo ones)
We have this machine and a Farberware percolator for american coffee...though technically you could just allow more water to filter through if you wanted an "americano".
HTH.

dearest dearest love...you know I only want what is best for you!
seriously, the bomb got me the Krups combo and I sat in tears for months and wasted countless pounds of espresso trying to make a remotely decent cappu and it just didn't work. we had no idea about water temp, pressure etc. and how these machines generally don't cut it.
the Bar 32 isn't really that large, and the percolator doesn't need to stay on the counter at all. it's very low profile and can be stored in the under or over cabinets.
they even have a super tiny model of the Farberware that makes only 2-4 cups. check out Century 21. they usually have some.

Re: DH wants an espresso maker ....
DH & I love espresso - it's a must-have every weekend morning. We have a Breville espresso maker that we've been using for over 2 years now and it's never given us a problem. We even have a separate, good quality grinder so every cup of espresso is made from fresh espresso grounds.
This is the espresso maker we have: Breville Espresso Maker

Re: DH wants an espresso maker ....
Thank you everyone, esp. Tilde and Ophelia, who I know would not lead me astray when it comes to Italian food and beverages! I mean, what do I know... I'm Irish. All I want for Christmas is a good kettle for my tea!

Re: DH wants an espresso maker ....
I am a big espresso lover and italian: I have had a Trevi Spidem for 6 years, and have never had a problem with it. It foams the espresso, grinds the beans, does everything, all you have to do is push a button. I recommend it to EVERYONE. People like the DeLonghi, but I will say that my uncle has had 2 of them, and they don't last long.

Re: DH wants an espresso maker ....
Honestly, the best kind to get is the 6 cup traditional maker.
*I just looked to see if Macys had and they do. It's IMUSA 6-cup maker.

Re: DH wants an espresso maker ....
If you want the fancy kind my BIL just got a Lavazza (sp?) it was like $500 though. We just use a stove top espresso maker and it works just fine
