DH is amazing! (NPR)
We both entered the national bone marrow registry over the summer - and DH was called as a match for a 28 year old female leukemia patient. After 5 days of pre-treatments, we spent much of today at Hackensack Hospital where DH went through a blood collection process for peripheral blood stem cells (alternate treatment to an actual bone marrow donation, per the needs of the recipient patient).
He is amazing! He is so happy to have done what he did.....he never gave it a second thought because he knew that someone's life was in his hands.
He's beyond sick tonight - and thrilled that we just got the call that they got enough cells in today's collection such that we don't have to return tomorrow as we planned to.
I can't wait to tell  what a hero his Daddy is!

That is a wonderful thing he did. It actually makes my heart smile. i lost a aunt to leukemia, she had a match but never got well enough to go thru it. God Bless your Hubby!

He just joined the registry in August (I joined about 12 years ago).
The donor registry is at DKMS Americas - and they do a wonderful job! Joining is simple - it's just a quick saliva swab...
