DH and I need some help!!

Ok, here goes, we moved out of our old apartment suddenly, giving the old landlady a weeks notice, because we feared she'd shut everything off if we gave longer and other stuff was happening with the house too, like they had plans to burn down stuff in the backyard without telling us, yada yada. Ok anyway. We did our change of address with the post office last week, but it does not go through instantly as I understand. So we told the old landlady we would be coming back during the next few weeks to check the mail. She was fine with that. Well, it has been a week and we have gotten no mail at the old place and nothing fowarded to the new place. We know that we always got those town criers or pennysavers on wed, thurs, and friday of every week, but there has been nothing there. Now, the people have been to the house, we can tell, things are rearranged and cleaned out. We suspect that they may be taking our mail. They are really weird people and the son in law is a very snotty vindictive guy. I am just finding it weird that NOTHING has arrived at that house in the mail the past week, not even junk mail, which in any case, would not be fowarded to us anyway. Does anyone know, can I call the post office to see if they are holding our mail? How can I catch these people? I had some really important work documents that were accidentally sent to the old address and I am freaking out that these people took them. I really want to go sit down the block and watch, because it all just doesn't make sense and I have this weird feeling, that something is going on over there. I do not know what to do!! HELP!!

it usually takes a little longer than a week, at least in my experience for mail to trickle through...it may still be on the way. We moved from Nassau to Suffolk and it was taking about 7-10 days for stuff to be forwarded!

On the one hand, it does sound quite shady, but on the other hand, as pschica said, it does take a while for mail to be forwared. DH and I were in our house a couple weeks before we got anything.

the mail that is addressed directly to your name will NOT be sent to your old address but it will take a little while before you get it at your new place, but I promise that they have not been getting your mail.

The first week we moved we didn't get any mail either. And there was nothing at our old address. It does take a week or so

if you do find that your mail has been stolen you can report them....tampering with mail is a federal offense.

Give it a week or so...ours took a while between the apt. and the house.

When we moved and had our stuff forwarded, we still did get stuff at the old address too, but mostly junk mail, so I dont know how that got through but it did. dont know what to tell you, but if I were worried I would just call the post office and see what they can tell you?

Sorry to tell you this, but when dh and I moved (only a few towns over) I had our mail fowarded and although we got some things, out old landlady continued to receive most of our mail, including bills. We had to go back and pick it up.

Thanks girls. We went there today and the landlady was there and they said there had been no mail. So we'll see. I just found it really weird that no junk mail, no pennysavers have gone there either, they would not be fowarded and they should still go there because the house is in their name. I am going to call the post office on Monday to see. I have never moved before or had mail fowarded so I have no clue how things work, I am just worried because there was a very important piece of mail sent there that I need for work and I would truly hate it if they took it by some chance.
