Dessert
Lets talk dessert: When you go out to eat do you always leave room for dessert? Do you share with SO or get one for yourself? What is your favorite dessert? What is the one thing that you bake that everyone raves about?

Re: Dessert
Yes. All for me. Either chocolate cake or something fruity like a tart or strudel. I bake a lot of stuff, but my cream puffs get the most raves.

Re: Dessert
Not usually, only if it's a special occasion. I'm very picky with desserts.

preheat oven to 400 degrees.
1 cup water 7 tablespoons butter 1 cup flour 4 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pinch salt
Heat butter and water in a medium saucepan until hot and lightly simmering. Add pinch of salt and one cup flour and stir until mixture forms a ball and pulls from the side of the pan. Drop mixture into a bowl and stir lightly breaking up ball to cool it off slightly. Add vanilla extract. Add eggs one at a time, beating well in between.
Drop by heaping teaspoonful on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and carefully slice open with a serrated knife to let the steam escape. When cool, fill with a mixture of cream and pudding, or whipped cream, or pastry cream or ice cream. Dust tops with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate. Enjoy.
I can't be bothered with the pastry bag like pro-bakers to form the puffs. Faster for me to use the spoon method.

Re: Dessert
You're welcome.
This should make anywhere from 24 to 30 puffs, depending upon the size spoon you use. I use my nephew's starter spoon - which is larger than a teaspoon, smaller than a tablespoon. You can easily cut the recipe in half.
Don't open the oven door to peak - the puffs won't puff.

Re: Dessert
Nope, never. I'm always the eyes-are-bigger-than-their-belly type person.
If I do get dessert though, chances are I'm not sharing. Unless it's meant to be shared.
Anything with chocolate. I used to hate chocolate cake and icing and syrup when I was a kid. I have NO idea why, I friggin love it now!
Red Velvet Cake Balls!
