Demo weekend & lessons learned UPDATE

Figured to write down my adventures for those who have tons of projects.

We were not going to get a dumpster (cost so much to get those things) but I am glad we did. Unless you have a truck you would have to break it up and then double/triple bag it and then lug it in a truck, off the truck and pay at the dump. PIA

So even though we just demoed a closet, two huge walls in the living/dining room, we found a huge stash of crap left over from the sellers that was in the attic it is all most filled. We ripped out the carpet in the living room/dining room and put it in there since it wasn't worth rolling and tie it up in small sections for our special pick up.

Another thing is if you can replace old insulation with new. It is so cheap and the old insulation is very fibrous and really is a rating that is low (basically does nothing). We put new in and even with open walls it was pretty warm! Shove insulation around doors/windows since most people do not and it really cuts down on drafts (air breaches.) Open walls - put new electric in. We were just going to put recess lights in and some exterior lights but our electrician was like you might as well do the entire rooms because the old thread wire and metal boxes are more risky then what we have now. Its a added expense we didn't want to dish out but we figured since he is cutting us a HUGE deal go for it.

Our wood floors are amazing just dark and ugly right now. Only a few boards need replacement and one small boo boo we hope the guy can fix (having our first vendor come tonight for exact quote.)

Also picking paint out is impossible until the walls are up and everything is skim coated/coated because our house is DARK now like you have no clue if there is daylight out.

Photo is in our dining room where the french doors going into a our finished garage (that was a apartment when the house was sold to us) and will be a "hang out" den for now and then a bedroom.

1/30 Update: all walls are spakle just waiting for the polish coat to get done monday, floor we are waiting to put down until after the wood refinisher comes in (wens) today (saturday) is electrician time! We are getting recess lights inside and out, in basement, lights all around the house, additional plugs in the basement and outside and a few other odds and ends. We should be ready to paint Friday/Sat and it will probably take me a few days to complete. Still have no clue on the exact color yet. Molding will not be put up until after painting along with the floor in the entry.

I am finally uploading the video!
