Deli Salads?

Are a no because of the risk of Listeria? Not knowing how long they've been sitting out etc? Right?

I really want some seafood salad (crab meat). If I ask them to get it from the fridge instead of the display do you think that's better?? Thanks!!

Deli Salads?

I ate egg salad throughout my whole pregnancy. It wouldn't even be a concern for me.

Deli Salads?

Its all made a tthe same time probably so getting it from the back would be no different.

That being said I wouldn't even worry about it. I ate everything during my PG.

Deli Salads?

For some reason, I thought mayo was a no-no... I've been craving veggie tuna salad on a cinnamon raisin bagel for weeks and abstained because I thought it was bad.... good to know!

I dont think they are but the only thing I do not have while pregnant is raw fish everything else I allow in moderation.

I've been eating deli salads, but I think seafood salad usually has artificial sweetener in it. Or something else that's a "no no". I ate it, but only like once or twice.

I have been eating deli salads and didn't even question it. Seafood salad I probably wouldn't or only get it from a place you always eat at

I think seafood salad does. It's so sweet (and yummy). I always get it from the King Kullen near my house.

Mayo is most definitely NOT off limits.
I ate boat loads of it while pregnant.

I would think fresh made mayo is no good, but from a jar, good to go. I hadn't eaten mayo for like a good 5-7 years before this pregnancy. Now I NEEEEEED it, haha.

Deli Salads?

I'm dying for 2 things : (1) that veggie tuna sandwich and (2) Russian dressing from the diner where I grew up (their House Dressing), specifically on pastrami, but I can put it on just about anything... thinking I might take a trip out to good ol' VS this weekend!

I've had a kick a few weeks ago of egg salad. Now I WANT SOOO BAD a Blimpie Sandwich, club specifically. Hubby heard the dr tell me no turkey/ham unless it's heated for 10 secs. OMG, I am in my second trimester already and I STILL want it. Would you?

Personally, I wouldn't. Listeria is one thing that I don't get the fine in moderation idea. If you get it, it's from eating something contaminated once. Also, you're chances of getting are actually highger later in your pregnancy bc your immune system is weaker.

I hadn't thought of deli salads as a no no but I guess there's a small chance of cross contamination but not much.

Deli Salads?

I didn't eat any cold cuts or deli salads - wasn't worth the risk. BUT my first meal after DS was born was a Italian hero...AMAZING!! LOL

I ate a lot of chicken salad while I was pregnant with DS 1 - constantly craved it!

I only wouldn't eat them if they are out at room temp for a long period of time (like at a party...)

Deli Salads?

My ob did not give me a list of foods to avoid. I specifically asked about cold cuts and sushi. He said as long as I was sure they were fresh it was OK.

Same here. Maybe once a week? Or every other week? I also ate sushi, drank caffeine (well under the 200mg limit), ate tuna 1-2x/ month.

They are fine. I ate them throughout my last pregnancy and all was well.

Cold cuts I heated, but I was so paranoid. I think that's fine too in moderation. The chance of actually getting listeria is so small and rare anyway.

Omg I ate cold cuts almost every day.
And hot dogs
And I also drank wine.
And coffee daily (dr's orders by the way)
And the only reason I didn't eat sushi was because I wasn't a fan at the time.
But now, I love sushi and I am sure I'd eat it if I was pregnant again.

As long as it's a reputable place I think cold cuts or deli salads are fine. I would just limit cold cuts because of the nitrates more so than worrying about getting sick. You can get listeria from eating fruit / salads too you just never know!

Mayo in a jar is fine. Eggs are tempered so that no salmonella or listeria is present.
I miss hot dogs but I found nitrate free uncured hotdogs at fairway and i can't wait to eat them with cole slaw from the deli!!!

I eat cooked sushi rolls, and I did for my last pregnancy too.

I miss wine! Chat Icon
