Decided to become a SAHM while on maternity
I've decided to become a SAHM while on maternity leave. It was not my intension at all prior to leaving, but after looking at daycares and costs, DH decided it's what's best to do for a year.
I am working on my resignation letter and am wondering what others have done. I am due back around 12/16 so I would like to give it this week or next week so they have notice.
I do not use their medical benefits and they do not pay for maternity leave but I was paid my 2 weeks vacation time while out, plus state disability, Can they make me pay them back? My defense is I could have taken that time prior to my leave. We do not have a an HR department or handbook so I was wondering what the norm is?

If you had already earned your 2 weeks vacation, then they won't ask you to repay. If you had not earned it, it's possible they would ask for that portion back. Disability shouldn't be an issue.

This is going to vary by company. They could make you pay back anything you hadn't "earned", same as if you left while not maternity, if that is the way your company works. If they never informed you that you earn vacation over the course of the year, then you probably earn all your vacation at the start of the year. Even if your company has an earning policy, they might not ask for the money (but would probably deduct it from anything they owe you).

I worked for very large firms and many women never came back from maternity leave. They didn't have to pay anything, so I'm sure you will be ok.

I never went back after my maternity leave either. I did not have to write a resignation letter or pay them back for my time used. I met with HR, signed some papers and handed in my badge.
