Deceiving social media post
Ok this might be a vent so please don’t quote but i hate when people put deceiving social media post. I have friend that recently had gastric bypass surgery she did not post this anywhere but a couple of weeks later post a picture of her with an outfit before and after saying how happy she is after making sacrifices and life changes that it now fit so much better”. The post makes it sound more like diet and exercise than anything else and of course no post of the surgery. Why this bother me s because i am someone who struggle with her weight the entire life and if i didn’t know the back story of the surgery i would be questioning how come she is achieving her goals and i can’t when i am dieting and going to the gym and probably feel bad about myself. Anyone else experience this? I feel like either you don’t post anything about loosing weight or you should be real about just in case someone else is struggling they can understand how it can happen

I see your perspective. I guess in some respect the surgery is a big deal and gastric bypass is no joke so her post is true if not misleading. The ones that bug me are people who have gastric bypass and then pretend the weight loss is due to their MLM. That is outright lying.

I agree. I think most of those are attention seekers posts, and I really dislike them. In most of them, there are two sides of the story, but they show only one in purpose. I just but, believe me, I got unfriended when I ignored one of those. Pathetic!

Facebook is all about displaying what you want to be seen. People do it every day.
I once told a friend I liked her vacation pictures and she told me she posted the only ones she had where her kid wasn’t having a meltdown.

Re: Deceiving social media post
Also, because I reread your post and thinking about it in my own way.. I don’t think anyone is obligated to post the true story of their struggle for the sake of other people.
Most of my friends know I went through infertility and losses over many years. I finally had my son. I wasn’t obligated to post how I conveived him because people who follow me are entitled to know that I finally had success with medical intervention.
That’s just life. People are going to disclose what they feel comfortable with and they won’t do it for the sake of anyone else... They post what they want to for themselves. If it were a weight loss blog where she posts diet and fitness tips, I’d feel differently.

Oh yeah! It’s everywhere and everyone. Like my husbands sis in law will post that it’s her sons 7th trip to Disney at 2 years old...but won’t post about how her brand new kitchen put them into debt. When you know it’s frustrating not to call someone out...

Deceiving social media post
From another perspective, from someone who had gastric bypass surgery. The surgery is only part of the solution. Diet and exercise is much more important. I have seen many people have the surgery with limited weight loss and then go on to gain it all back because they did not use proper diet and exercise. I never focused on the surgery but on the lifestyle changes that I made after.

Of course someone wouldn't post that, and who would want to see the ranting on FB anyway? Honestly, you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't. If you share happy moments in your life, you are a bragger. If you share crap moments in life, you are a debbie downer. I think some people just take social media WAY too seriously. If things annoy someone that much about what their friends post, it's time to unfriend them, or step back from social media, because most people aren't going to share the ****** parts of their life.

Yup, this exactly. I know two people that have had gastric. One was successful because she ate right, etc. The other, not so much. So the person DOES need to put in the work.

Exactly. Gastric bypass is not the magic bullet a lot of people think it is. It kind of forces you to do the work, yes, but you still have to do the work. You can't continue to eat the way you used to and just drop tons of weight.

Re: Deceiving social media post
But she did make a sacrifice. She has gastric bypass. I worked with a woman that had it done as well. I found out by mistake but she didn't mention a word to anyone here. Just that her sugar was through the roof and her doctor told her to lose weight. She also made it sound quite easy.
Weight kept falling off her. But she also started to eat like a bird; because her stomach was now so small (she didnt know we knew this) and she also started walking for 4 miles every day. There is upkeep.
And like a Previous Poster said, not everyone has to explain how they got to their journey. GB can be a very personal thing amongst other things in life.
And who cares? You know the truth. That's all that matters.

Re: Deceiving social media post
Everyone struggles with something in life. Every single person has some sort of struggle. And every single person - or, most people, anyway - on social media posts more good stuff in their lives than bad.
Your friend had major surgery, which I'm sure was a well-thought-out process by herself and her medical team, and part of that process - a major part of it - is relearning proper eating and exercise.
So what if she doesn't post that she had the surgery? It isn't anyone's business and she is, as she stated, making sacrifices and life changes. It's not a miracle surgery -- some of my friends have had it and one of them said that the easiest part is the surgery itself; all of the hard work is on the individual for the rest of their lives.
If you are finding that a person's social media posts are making you feel bad about your own life, then it is probably time to hide them from your newsfeed or step back from social media for a bit.
