DD's voice is so hoarse

I really thought it was from crying hard the other night but it's been 3 days now and doesn't seem to be getting better.

She has no other symptoms... what could this be?

(I am calling the ped but they don't open till 9am).

ETA: I spoke with the ped, she told me saline drops and a steamy shower for now and to call back Friday morning if there's been no improvement. Chat Icon that it works!

Re: DD's voice is so hoarse

I think there is something going around-Sienna caught it before we left. Her voice was hoarse too. When you get home, can you sit in a steamy bathroom with her and see if that helps?

I can ask DH to do that, he's home with the kids today. Poor thing... I hope she isn't sick but if she is, she's the happiest sick baby I've ever seen! Chat Icon

I was going to say this too! This is one of the signs my DS had. His poor voice was so hoarse- it was sad!

Hmm, I don't think so. She has no other signs... well none that I know of. How would I know if she did?

Re: DD's voice is so hoarse

DD has had this twice- at 9 mos and currently. Both times it was an ear infection. I was told the fluids dropping into her throat irritate and cause the horseness.

Re: DD's voice is so hoarse

DD has had a hoarse voice for 2 days. It is better today than yesterday and she has no other symptoms. I'm waiting it out. I'll take her to the doctor if she gets a fever, cranky, lost appetite, or lethargy, but none of that so far.

This happened to my son too. He was hoarse for a long time. At the same time he was getting earinfection on top of ear infection. He was always happy during the day, but night was a different story! I would take Iz to the pedChat Icon

DH just took her temp, it was 98.2. She sleeps well at night, it's getting her to sleep that's the problem. Although last night was a lot better - she was able to self soothe twice and only woke once to eat.

We're going to try the shower and saline drops and if she's not better by tomorrow I'll take her in.

Re: DD's voice is so hoarse

I will confess, when Joey was around your DD's age, I went to the nighttime ped. b/c his voice was so hoarse. Turns out he was trying to "use" it to much and just strained it a little. This is what he gets for babbling to much Chat Icon

He said that they try to make so many new noises everyday and strain themselves sometimes, could be that? or is it cold related?
