DD's first cold

We've been lucky. She's 14 months and this is her first cold. With all the snow in the forecast, is there anything I should run out to get for her before we get stuck home? I don't have Boogie wipes, are they worth it? I do have Saline drops and a humidifier. I also have a nasal aspirator, but I'm sure she won't let me get near her with that. She barely lets me wipe her nose with a tissue.

DD's first cold

My DS had colds monthly for the first year. I do nothing except suck boogies out. and now that he is older I don't even do that.

boogie wipes are good if the nose is red and cracked but I wouldn't rush out to get them for no reason.

Yes vicks or the vicks things for the humidifier. I saw a thing where you put vicks and some water in a scentcy warmer too. Boogie wipes and saline are pretty much all you can use. Have some Tylenol and motrin on hand too just in case of a fever.

Re: DD's first cold

Like the PP said... vicks and humidifier in addition to what you're doing. I never bought the boogie wipes. I use regular tissues or the wipes. I use a little chapstick on their lips and some aquaphor on the nose when it gets red or irritated. I also use the Vicks plug ins. Just make her feel comfortable too and hopefully she will get better soon. Unfortunately it's the time of year. Chat Icon

Maybe some Pedialyte in case she doesn't want to eat?

Re: DD's first cold

My DD around same age has a cold too and I have ibuprofen, saline drops, baby Vicks rub (must) box of tissues, lots of juice/pedialite I have the small Vicks vapor machine that gives off that menthol smell this helps her breath at night. That's pretty much it.

Thanks for all the tips! I've got her humidifier going, put some baby Vicks on her chest, and set up her crib with the incline insert that I used to use for her when we were transitioning from the rnp to the crib to elevate her head. Hopefully that all helps. She doesn't seem to bad, its just her nose has been running like a waterfall all day!

Re: DD's first cold

DD is 19 months and just got over her 1st cold which lasted 2 weeks Chat Icon I put a little honey in her bottles to help soothe her throat. I also gave her Infant Advil at night, it's an anti-inflammatory so it helps with constriction in the throat. Make sure your humidifier is a cool mist one too, the other ones can actually make congestion worse. Lavender oil is great to put in the humidifier, it helps with colds. And like the others said with the vapor rub on her feet too. You can also make your own natural cough syrup by mixing honey, oil and lemon. Hope she feels better soon!
