DD with Birthday Party Fears

DD keeps saying that she doesnt want a birthday party (she'll be 3). She gets herself all worked up and gets SO upset at the mention of it. She is also SCARED to death of people singing Happy Birthday. At birthday parties, we have to leave the room or stand away at a distance. and for her own, there is no way we'll be able to sing to her, especially with the whole family there.

Anyone else experience this with their DC?

DS doesn't have issues with birthday parties, but he does have some sensory issues. He's been doing EI since 1.5. He's now 3.5 and doing amazing. Not sure if that's anything like your dd, but my son doesn't care for loud toys or toys that move on its own. Like those tickle me Elmo's or singing stuffed animals.
Now he backs up and says... It's ok. It's just a toy.
He is so much better.
Is it only birthday parties?
Like I said..l may not be anything to do with sensory, but figured I'd ask.

My DD hates having Happy Birthday sung to her. She refuses to have anyone do it at her birthday parties. She is fine with singing for others though. For the past 3 years, we have not sung to her. It's her birthday so I do what she wants me to do. She also doesn't like people clapping for her. She is getting better at allowing it now that she is getting a little bit older. For her, it's anxiety. I believe it's age related and as she matures, this too, will subside.

So don't do a party!
Do something special that your kid will live with people she wants around.
Kids are so fickle at 2 to 3. DS decides something he doesn't like every day. This week it's socks. If it is just people singing happy birthday, you are in luck.

Of course, if there is more to the story, I'm a big fan of Gymboree for social interaction and singing!
