DD refusing to potty train

My DD (3 years old) has been giving me a hard time about peeing on the potty. This weekend I decided to put her in underwear and refused to give her a pull-up. She held it in until she was crying in pain and could no longer hold it in anymore- She finally peed in the potty as she was screaming and crying but refused to go back on it, and the whole process went the same the next time around with her holding it in until she was in pain, screaming/crying... I thought that maybe once she actually peed in the potty she would see it's not scary/doesn't hurt.

Did anyone else have a hard time with their DC and potty training, did they eventually just come around when they were "ready"?

DD refusing to potty train

Yep. We tried a couple of times before DD was ready. Then, it went off without a hitch. Keep trying every couple of weeks/months and she'll get there.

Re: DD refusing to potty train

We had the same issue except with poop.
She peed fine on the potty, never an accident, but pooping was a battle.
She would poop in her underwear.
She would refuse no matter what we tried.

Finally one day she just did it. And that was it.
It was like a switch was flicked and she just "got" it and never looked back.

She might not be ready and forcing it and having her scream and cry in pain is only going to set her back IMO.
Give her some more time

We did that. That phase lasts for about half a day. I pumped them full of juice in the AM so they were literally peeing every 30 minutes.

ETA: yes, the poop took about a month for one of my kids. But then it was over.

we had the same issue with DS. Put her back in pull ups/diapers and give her more time.

Sounds like my 2.5 year old. She tells me "ok, I'll go potty." Sits down, demands various books, gets up, puts her own diaper on and pees in it. When I ask why she didn't go on the potty she tells me she didn't feel like it. She pulls underwear right off and goes and puts a diaper on.

She's also told her teacher "oh my god, enough with this" when she puts her on the potty.

I'm giving her more time because what else am I going to do? I can't tie her to the toilet.

My ds is 3 and I'm struggling with it now too. He refuses to sit AT ALL! He will hold it until he can't then hide and pee all over my floor somewhere or outside. He doesn't care at all, he just wants nothing to do with the potty. I'm beyond frustrated!

Re: DD refusing to potty train

My daughter has kidney/urinary tract issues so may be a bit different but her urologist is adamant about not forcing any kid to potty train. We didn't push my daughter and she literally trained herself in a day for pee, and about a week for poop. She night trained at the same time. I didn't have to wake her up, set alarms, or anything like that. She was 3 months shy of 4 years old so older than many kids but the whole process was harmless--no fights, no crying, and no accidents (except 2 poops in that first week).
