DD is officially ALLERGY FREE!

We took 12.5 month old DD to the allergist yesterday as she had a Milk/Soy Protein Allergy since about 5 weeks old.
She tested NEGATIVE for milk/soy and the proteins. AND since we were there, we had her tested for Eggs, Nuts & Fish and those were also negative!
To celebrate- she had Pasta with veggies & BUTTER. Eggs for breakfast!

I'm so excited to let her try new things and hopefully get her off Nutramagin & onto Regular or Soy milk soon!

Re: DD is officially ALLERGY FREE!

that's great! let the culinary adventure begin!

can I just ask of curiosity what kind of allergy test is this?

I keep asking DH if we should do it, and he tells me its bogus test. They can't test for allergies unless the child has already tried the food at least once. He's been to medical school, and ... sometimes I think he should go back and get his money back. Chat Icon

Do you have details about the test?

Re: DD is officially ALLERGY FREE!

I work for Quest and to above poster you are correct, they can skin prick and sometimes tell but the human body produces a response to an allergen only if exposed. So, that being said immunocap is a blood test that can test for everything ,ask your ped. Now,it will only come back positive if you have been exposed to something in the last 9 months. So if u have avoided shrimp for 10 years bc you are allergic then the test would come back negative as you have not consumed it. So, you see where you could be allergic but if no exposure to it or not in last 9 months then it is inaccurate. My DD tested negative for milk and soy thru skin prick but still has issues with milk at 2.5. She does not have a true allergy but can not have milk because when her system digests it, it causes inflammation in the colon and she bleeds etc....pain in the neck! She gets hives occasionally too as I try to give her things with minimal dairy to see if she can tolerate

Can you explain the whole time thing again? I'm confused by the 9 month thing. I only ask because my son hasn't ingested dairy in 4 years and had an immunocap done about 6 months ago that showed a severe dairy allergy and a dairy skin test about 1 month ago that had an immediate reaction, and he definitely has not ingested dairy in years - I'm a psycho about his food.

Also, I've been told by 2 different allergists that dairy allergies can result in either an anaphalyptic reaction OR ulcerative colitis but both still a true allergic reactions to dairy.

Re: DD is officially ALLERGY FREE!

We went to the Ped and he was all gung ho about just trying milk or soy milk. I don't like the things I've read about soy, so I wouldn't try it. I also told him I was hesitatnt to have her try milk..there was projectile vomitting involved last itme we tried milk-based formula. We're IN queens, so he recommended an allergist near us and we went. She did the back prick test.
I'm happy I have conclusive results, but it was painfull and annoying to her and I hated watching her so upset.

I've been testing things with butter, eggs and so far so good. She's still on Nutramagin..at least until I finish this can...

Karin- what formula is jack on now? I think I'll ease her in by doing 1/2 nutramagin and 1/2 gentle ease..phase out the nutramagin and THEN switch to milk.

I did too!! don't stress it too much! Nutramagin & Alimentum are pretty much the same. I was SCHOCKED when the test was negative. the really do outgrow these things around 1 sometimes!

That's great!

Have you tried yogurt? We have tried yogurt and she gets a rash around her mouth so I have been hesitant to try any milk. Her one year will visit is on Tuesday. I just can't wait to stop using Nutramigen. She's been fine eating eggs, and cheese.
