DC off the beaten path
It looks like I'll be in DC for two nights this summer.
I've been there a bunch of times and I'd like to see some off the beaten path sites.
I will also be going to the National Archives and the FDR memorial which I haven't seen yet.
Would love to know any recs for must see sites beyond the obvious.
Also, a good steakhouse or other place for a not too fancy but good quality meal?
TIA!

I also love the Renwick gallery which is part of the Smithsonian and the Corcoran Gallery as well.

Have you been to Clydes to eat? I prefer the Friendship Heights location but the one in Georgetown is good too.
I also liked this restaurant:http://www.yelp.com/biz/taberna-del-alabardero-washington
People also love Georgetown cupcakes.
For steak The Capital Grill is great as is the Palm.

DH and I had what we still refer to the best meal ever at Graffiato. Make reservations in advance, and get the tasting menu.
ETA: It isn't a fancy place, just really really good food.

Yes, love that place! Didn't know there were two - I've always been to the Georgetown one.
Georgetown cupcakes has always been on my list but whenever I get there the line is crazy.

There is a place in Baltimore that we adore called Mama's on the Half Shell, not sure if you want to drive all the way just for a restaraunt but it isnt far from the Inner Harbor which is a beautiful area to walk around.

There are actually 9 Clyde's locations. http://www.clydes.com/
DC Cupcakes can also be found in Bethesda, which is near Friendship Heights.

I agree! Graffiato is yummy! Small plates, great food.
