So for weeks the daycare has had these signs for a pot luck lunch tomorrow at 2:00. I thought "that would be nice but I have job, thus the need for daycare."

Well today I get an e-mail from the daycare "reminding" me (and all parents) that the daycare is closing at 2 for the pot luck lunch. Chat Icon Don't they realize that we use them BECAUSE WE WORK AND NEED SOMEONE TO WATCH OUR CHILDREN DURING THE DAY Chat Icon

This is the same place that had a meet and greet for parents at 6:45 but we were not allowed to bring our kids "because there will be wine there". Needless to say, because only 2 of 10 parents signed up, they cancelled it.

Do they not get that the vast majority of us are are WORKING parents- who need our time to work during the day and treasure our time with our kids at night?? Chat Icon Chat Icon

The nanny will start in January after the new year. My sister was asking me if I was having doubts and if I wanted to back out it would be OK (since I haven't given notice to the daycare yet). This just assures me that I am making the right choice.

A pot luck lunch so daycare is closed??

Yeah, that's pretty damn ridiculous... our school closes early on fridays for Shabbat, and schedules TWO separate weeks off during the year for "cleaning", but we manage. If they ever tried to pull a "we're closing for a pot luck lunch" I'd flip!

Re: Daycare Vent

Very lame of them! Hello their job is to watch the kids so the parents who have to go to work can go to work.

That would annoy me to no end. I thought a pot luck lunch was an extra if you want to stop by, etc. I would never think my daycare would CLOSE so they can eat lunch.

I'm glad you're moving her. They sound unreliable - and with a daycare that's the last thing you need.

Re: Daycare Vent

this is what drives me bananas about daycare. I understand that they are a business too, but your business is taking care of children so people can work!

I love my daycare, but they closed for Veterans Day last week Chat Icon , they have a ten day spring break, a week in August, and a week between christmas and new year's. Not to mention they also observe jewish holidays (try explaining THAT to my boss)--they mirror themselves after a school and they ARE better because they retain better staff this way, but GEEZ! I feel like once a month, I am either planning to take a day off or have to find coverage from family to watch Bella...
and for the bargain price of 1400 bucks a monthChat Icon

Re: Daycare Vent

It almost sounds like the pot luck is for the workers not the parents. How weird. I would talk to the director about these weird events.

I like my son's daycare idea of having a night once every 6 months (December and June) where they'll stay open until 11pm (or they open from 6-11pm on a Saturday, I forget which) to babysit so you can do soething on your own with your SO. I don't think they charge extra, either!

I was thinking the same thing, seems like the pot luck lunch is for them.

My DD's daycare does the same thing aorund the holidays, they have one next week and 2 in december, they call it Holiday babysitting. They are open from 6-10, but they charge us 25 bucks a night.

NOt this year, but next year with a 1.5 year old and a 5 month old we will def take advantage of that to do some shopping!

Re: Daycare Vent

I do not have the same issues at Molly's daycare, but they do plan holiday parties. during their day for the children. Parents are NOT required to attend but I always do. It
They close on large holidays of course and are closed for 1 week in June and 1 week in September but we are told about that when we sign-up.

My old day care was closed only for Federal Holidays - which was convenient - except for the strange ones like Veteran's Day & Regan's funeral that I had to make last minute arrangements for childcare.

Kiddie Academy is closed ONLY on major holidays. They're open the day after Thanksgiving...love them!!!

Regan's funeral? Unless your daycare provider was going to it, that's an odd day to close!

Re: Daycare Vent

That would bother me as well. I just got the calendar for the 2007 year for my son's daycare and they are closed on Halloween. I am so mad about that. Who closes for Halloween. Chat Icon
