daycare for infants?

We might have to put DD into daycare for a few days a week- i feel so uneasy about it because she is going to be so young (6 weeks+) - Does anyone know what do they do with little ones in daycare, since they really dont/cant do much yet... do they just keep them in the crib all day? what about when they are crying- are there really enough people there to hold them when they get fussy?

Courtney...

I worked in a daycare center all through college in the infant rooms. We took babies as early as 8 weeks and we basically had schedules for each of them and would rotate between holding them, feeding them, putting them on the floor for playtime, taking them for walks around the building in the strollers etc.

Kids were only ever in their cribs when they were sleeping.

This is what they do at my daycare too. DD was 12 weeks when she started, but they are there as early as 6 weeks. IMO they take very good care of them!

The infants are only in cribs when they are sleeping in DS's daycare. The rest of the day they are playing in the swing, bouncy seat or being held. As they get older they get tummy time and play with the exersaucer (sp) and play on the floor

DD's daycare takes babies as early as 6 weeks and I've seen quite a few little ones. Her daycare has a policy that babies are only in their cribs when they are sleeping. Otherwise they hold the little ones, put them in the swing, bouncy seat etc.

Re: daycare for infants?

DD didn't go in so young...but I notice what they do with the little ones. They usually hold them if they can or they go in the bouncer. They usually bring the bouncer with them wherever they are in the room. Like if they are feeding some of the older babies, they will rest the bouncer right next to them on the floor and include the little ones in on the "conversation". Sometimes they are in the swing, which they can see all that's going on in the room. The little babies in DD's room seem to be very happy.

As far as the crying....these girls are so used to having 4 kids at a time, and to be honest....the bigger babies don't really need to be held like the little ones do. So if it does happen that all 4 babies are crying at once, they try not to let them cry. And will usually hold the little ones. The bigger babies-they can sit on the floor with them. But they have them all on a schedule, so usually the older babies don't have a reason to cry.....they are fed and put to sleep before they get to that point.

ETA....babies are only in cribs when sleeping or being put down for a nap.
