Daycare and Biting
Hello,
just looking for some advice =)
my dd was bit in daycare twice before and yesterday when my husband picked her up at 4:45 the teacher told him she had TWO bite marks but they have no idea how it happened. She noticed it at 3:45 when she went to wash her hands. They didn't see anyone bite her nor did my dd cry.
At 5:00 the director is calling me to inform of the situation. we spoke for a little bit and i asked a bunch of questions.
there are 2 biters in her class and supposedly they are being shadowed already. she isnt the only one getting bit.
i told her how upset i was especially since they just dont know what happened.
there wasn't an incident report done yesterday but it was late in the day so i told them i want one for today.
i ran into her teacher this morning as i was leaving and asked what happened. she just didnt know. i could tell she felt horrible.
i just still upset over it and not sure what i should do next or if anything and what happens when/if it happens again. any advice would be appreciated!

it happens unfortunately. It's good they are shadowing the kids. That's #1. I worked in dc for 5years, and at times we didn't notice anyone getting bit. Sometimes the kids just don't cry. You would think they would but they didn't. I don't have much advice as it seems like they are being proactive about it. I would just be on top of them, and check your daughter every day. If it keeps happening after the shadowing, then I would have to think about keeping my child there or they would have to remove those children from the classroom.

Unfortunately, it happens and it's not always caught. Dd got bit a couple of times. Once the kids became verbal it stopped because they could tell each other to get away or stop when the other was annoYing them. Dd actually had a bit on her arm one day and no one could explain how it happened. It's upsetting but it sounds like they are proactive and I know you don't want to hear this but it really only does happen for a short time.

Daycare and Biting
It happens - it is something they grow out of though.
DS 1 managed only to get bit 2x in his daycare stay and it really bothered me. DS 2 got bit a lot at daycare and then became a biter himself so it was interesting to see things from the other side. Other than shadowing, there isn't much you can do to stop it - and even when you are shadowing, they are really quick!!!

Re: Daycare and Biting
Ugh, the biting. It's just something I do not tolerate as a childcare provider. It's the worst when one kid brings it into the classroom and then it spreads, as s/he teaches it to everyone else. It's good your daycare does know who the specific biters are and are working toward fixing the problem. Unfortunately though, accidents do happen no matter how vigilant a teacher is. It's so much easier once children are vocal. As a parent, I'm not sure how I'd handle this. It sounds like they've already done all they can and apologized and feel awful that your child was hurt. If it doesn't happen again, then I'd just let it go. If it continues, then I'd have to make a stink about it, because it really should not be something that happens more than once.
