Daycare -- snowday and payment quiestion

Do you get refunded when daycare is closed due to a snowday?

Im a little irked -- DD has only been in daycare for about 5 weeks, and we've already missed 2 days bc of holiday, and another due to the snow! I dont get why we should have to pay for holidays and ESPECIALLY snowdays when she's not there! i shouldnt complain bc we only pay $200/week, but its still aggrevating.

We pay for the full week if Mason is there 5 days or 1 day. They do allow you to pay half for a vacation/sick week. That's only after he's there three months. Other than that I pay the full price.

I spoke with a friend who has a nanny in the city. She has to pay her full price even if they're away the week b/c it's the nanny's only job so I don't think the half price is too bad.

Re: Daycare -- snowday and payment quiestion

thats why I can see that for holidays. i mean, i get paid for holidays. but it was their choice to close due to the snow, the staff didn't go to work.

I dont get paid on snowdays!!!!

also, I dont know many people who got off for MLK Day, or for President's Day. Maybe it's because im in healthcare and nothing is ever closed, but still. Maybe that's making me biased. My husband or I are usually the one on call on Xmas

Of course you pay!

You are paying for DC's spot in daycare, if she wasn't there, another child would be going and paying.

That's how DS's daycare works too. It's a flat rate per month. DD's babysitter, on the other hand, we don't pay her if we don't drop her.

Uh no- no refund if there is a snow day- and we pay for all of holidays too even if there is no school. Think about it- they have to pay their employees even if there is a snow day/holiday- so we have to pay. Yes it is annoying, but they are doing the right thing.

val, this is how it was explained to us. at many daycares, the caregivers are guaranteed a certain number of hours or salary and they rely on your $$ to be able to pay the caregivers and bill etc. We had to sign something that said we understood and agreed. All daycares are this way Chat Icon

No, I was talking in the general sense, that if your DC didn't have a spot, then someone else would be paying for that spot whether they are open or not

sooo, if they tell you not to come in - if they made the decision, you SHOULD get paid!

If they tell you not to go in, then you should be paid.

If you take a day and don't have any leave (sick, personal, holiday, whatever) then you wouldn't get paid

I concur-this is how it works for us to and it makes sense to me. There are expenses that need to be paid regardless of the weather/holiday. Rent, insurance etc. They are fixed expenses and our monthly payment goes towards that in addition to payroll.

exactly, if there are say 30 kids in the center, its $75 for the day/kid, they are out $2250 for ONE day. Multiply that over the course of a year for holidays, etc and youre talking 10s of thousands, possibly.

Ultimately thats only going to impact your childs care and the services available to him or her.
