Day of Silence - anyone heard of this???
This is the first I'm hearing of this but I was wondering if anyone else knows anything about it. It's a day (April 25) at high schools where silence is promoted to encourage acceptance (I guess that would be the proper term) of different lifestyles. I don't know much about it - this is the information I found. Just wanted to know more about it if anyone knows. TIA.
******************************
This event was started a decade ago by an adult homosexual advocacy group, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), with the goal of promoting homosexuality to all students in a given school.
The Day of Silence postures every person who identifies as a homosexual, bisexual or cross-dresser as a victim of ongoing, unrelenting harassment and discrimination (being 'silenced').
Some schools are passive in their participation, and simply allow a few students (usually members of a homosexual school club) to hang signs around their necks and remain silent all day. Other schools are at the other end of the spectrum, with many students, teachers and faculty remaining silent, and with the school allowing several days of outside speakers, school assemblies, announcements, even school TV shows.

I never did this but I did participate in the MADD version (silent for the whole day out of respect for teens who died in DD accidents)
