day care parents
Question for those day care parents. When coxsackie, roseola, stomach viruses, etc. are going around day care do they ALWAYS send a note home? Send it only if its in your LO's class? Or just send it when they feel like it? Or never send on?
TIA, thanks!
ETA: How would you feel/what would you do if you found out that they were informed Monday morning a child in you LO's class was out with coxsackie and you picked up monday, dropped off tuesday, and found out by other means?
This has happened before and they always have a poor excuse. I just feel we deserve some type of notification.

Re: day care parents
There was usually a note at the door telling what virus is going around as a heads up. It was at the front door and maybe on the bulletin board in the front as well. I don't think it mentioned what class, but if you ask a teacher or the director they would be honest and tell you where. They also say they wash the toys more often.

Re: day care parents
we have a health advisory board as soon as you walk in the door. All contagious illness' are posted there. They also tend a send a mass email if it is a more "serious" one. Something like the flu, lice, cdiff, RSV etc.

I guess there is now way of really knowing if the send it every time I assume they do but I don't know everyone who is sick and what they have. with that said we will get a notice attached to our daily reports and we get it even if its no in our room. most of the time the teacher will say to me don't worry its not in our class.

We get a notice home if it is a child in their class. There is also a different room they go to at the very end of the day for aftercare with kids from different classes. So if it is someone they are with in aftercare, we also get a notice.
To answer your other question: honestly, it wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't keep them home or do anything differently if I knew about it. To me, the only purpose it serves is to suggest what my child might have if I notice symptoms. Not that big of a deal to me.

Re: day care parents
would you have kept him home having known the info? I don't think it would change anything for you other than knowing to watch our for signs/symptoms of coxsackie (didn't he just have it?)
I would speak with the director and ask to be notified AS SOON AS they are notified!
Do they post illness' in a public/central area where all parents can see it?

We get notes for something like coxsackie but not for a stomach bug.

Not daycare, but they did this for DD's preschool.

no, they do not have a public place where they post these things. I wish they did! they just send a note home when they feel like it.
I 100% get that DS will get this stuff, he has already had it ALL this past year... but this is why it upsets me:
1) He was diagnosed at Pm pediatrics on mother's day with an ear infection cause he had the sniffles the week before and had a little fluid in his ear and a crazy high fever. back and forth to the dr, fever stopped tuesday night, wednesday had a rash. they never told anyone anything, it was roseola, had I known we could have avoided wrongly medicating him and the torture of making him take it.
2) a kid came back in august after having coxsackie, sores STILL OPEN. He was not well enough to be there, 3 parents from the class (inc me) said something. They let him stay, Us 3 parents wanted to take our kids home that day but could not find a way to do it, if my mom could have watched him I actually would have kept him home all week. they all got it terrible.
3) a week or so ago, i heard another kid had it, they combine DS with that room most afternoons. I asked them why we didn't get a note, that i heard there was a case, they said he wasn't near them. But now this kid in his class has it... which was probably from that.
So yes, it might change decisions or help to know if I see symptoms, and then I can try not to spread it also. DS had it sooooooo bad this summer and we are running out of time to use and i am tired of seeing him so sick

Re: day care parents
I would demand a written policy on illness. That should help. Also, a central location for notice of illness.
Those things should be obvious in a state/county accredited child care facility!
When we notify our daycare of an illness, they tell us "your child may return when they no longer have the following symptoms....." and open blisters would have been included.

If something like Cocksackie, Flu, Scarlet Fever etc is in the class they put a note on the door. Stomach virus, or the common cold, no.

ITA, plus I think things like this have to be reported.

Re: day care parents
We get a letter attached to our daily gram summary that says someone in the center has X. We've gotten it for conjunctivitis a few times and for coxsackie,

This is how it is handled in our daycare. Even if I knew what was going on I'd still have to send my kids...so I guess I'd be annoyed but would quickly get over it.
I'm VERY annoyed when they allow a child who is CLEARLY ill (open sores example, or fever, nasty nasty cough/cold) stay. That sends me over the edge!

We are supposed to. However whoever infected my child didn't have an alert sent out. So when dd had a high fever my mom stayed with her. She called me at work saying she thinks she has chicken pox. I left work early and rushed to the ped to find out it was coxsackie. If an alert had gone out like it should have I probably would have not left work early and not taken her to the dr and wasted a co-pay. I was annoyed by it.

Our day care is small so she doesn't do letters. If there is a stomach but, rash or something that seems to be "going around" she lets us know.

Re: day care parents
We get e-mails when there's an outbreak at the center and there are also notices posted on the front door. Generally they specify the wing that the outbreak takes place (infants, toddler/twos, preschool, school age). I'm pretty sure they're required to do this.
