I'm sure he was advised to write this letter....to prevent himself from having more charges.

Re: david laffer ... cant serve on jury duty
Well if you read after the letter that IF he were out on bail, he would be expected to serve. So he's just covering his asss. His lawyer probably asked him to write this letter.

If you're out on bail awaiting a trial how does that allow you to a good juror? Shouldn't they automatically be dismissed if you have charges against you?

Maybe not since people are innocent until proven guilty.

What would automatically dismiss you from being called for jury duty?

What amazes me even more is that this drug addict qualified to sit on a jury.

Re: david laffer ... cant serve on jury duty
I'm sure his lawyer advised him to write the letter. The court system does not communicate immediately to the commissioner of jurors who the convicted felons are. Even if you are a felon and you are called, you are still expected to respond with your valid reason for not being eligible or there could be a Consequence. And I believe Some felons can serve jury duty if their civil rights have been restored. Laffer is not a felon yet so he is eligible.

My first thought too.
It's easy to ponder jury duty for a jailed person than to understand deficit spending.
