cyst in ear lobe after wearing earrings

Anyone ever gets a painful cyst in their ear lobe? Chat Icon

I notice I get it all the time after wearing a particular pair of dangling heart earrings from Tiffany's! Maybe they're too heavy? I have one right now in my right ear and wore the earrings on Sunday. It hurts!!!!

Re: cyst in ear lobe after wearing earrings

I would disinfect the earrings with rubbing alcohol. As for your ear, what worked for me was a hot compress and then antibiotic ointment. Now, when I get new earrings before ever putting them on I disinfect the posts with rubbing alcohol. Kind of like once bitten, twice shy. I think someone else tried them on in the store and they had an infection and unfortunately now you have it.

ETA: Now that I am thinking about this, the earrings that gave me the cyst in my ear were also from Tiffany's. Hummm....

Thanks for the advice! But actually, I have owned the earrings for a few months already and used alcohol on them when I first bought them. I also use alcohol on them every few times I wear them just to keep them clean..... So I just don't know what this could be! Maybe an allergy to something in the metal? Or maybe they really are too heavy Chat Icon

My mom suggested getting the posts changed to a different metal, though I think they're 14k gold. Chat Icon

I'm going to try the hot compress tonight! Chat Icon

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to put on a hot compress and then some ointment. I hope I can still wear them, they're from DH! Chat Icon

I've had that happen. Hot compress and antibiotic ointment. I think the hard cyst is actually pus.

I get them too! Not sure what the heck they are but I think my ears/skin is just very sensitive. If one comes out I just don't wear earrings for a couple of days and I can't wear cosmetic jewelry...only real metals.

You could be allergic to gold. I think I am. Sterling Silver seems worse for me, though. I wore earrings this past week for one day for the first time in ages. They are 14K and one ear became very sore and still is. I am fine with rings, necklaces and bracelets.
