cutting fingernails...
I used to cut Emily's fingernails about once a week when she fell esleep on my lap during her nightly bottle.
Now she's not falling esleep on me at all. SHe's miserable and tired but won't fall esleep till I put her in the crib, so I haven't cut her nails in about 2 weeks and they are getting WAY too long.
Any suggestions on how I can do it?

While Jared was drinking his bottle, I take one of his hands and trim the nails. Then I would take the other hand and snip away.

she doesn't let me do that at all! she is such a squirmer!! i'm actually considering going in and doing it in her sleep but i wouldn't be able to reach down in her crib enough and if I put the side down it'll probably wake her.

I pretty much pin her down and do it. She fights me and wiggles her fingers but I just try to distract her with lots of talking. We don't usually get both hands done at the same time though.

Ah this is my speciality. Does she fall asleep in the car? I know moms that used to do that.
I usually prop them on my lap in front of the TV & cut away. If that doesn't work, after their bath is a good time (nails are softer too & it's less noticeable).
After almost 5 years, it's just occured to me that DH has never cut their nails. Hmm...

Yea ... my DH has never done it and I doubt he ever will. I have to remind him to cut his own nails!!! 
She sleeps in the car but only if it's moving. As soon as it stops she wakes up. And DH doesn't drive so I'm the only one who usually can drive ... so that's kinda out of the question.
I am thinking of sneaking into her room now since she's been esleep for an hour to see if I can do it without waking her.

Woohoo! I just cut them in her sleep! She stirred a few times but for the most part it was quick and easy! This might be the new method now!!!

I'm so lucky that I started out cutting Christopher's nails while he was awake. He actually sits there calmly and lets me do it. I know he'd never be able to sleep through it. Glad to hear you were able to get her nails cut though!

Try this: filing. It takes longer but if you do it every few days, she'll never have sharp nails like when you cut it only.

 Sorry I can't be of help. I don't have any trouble cutting my little man's finger nails. He is wide awake and knows it is part of the routine after bath time. I cut his twice a week, they grow so fast. Good luck though, hope you figure something out.

I still haven't gotten up the courage to cut our sons nails. We filed them down twice already, but I'm scared that I'll hurt him with the nailcutter... any tips/suggestions (other than doing it while they sleep)?

Dh and I have to do this together. One to hold her and make her stop squirming and the other to cut and/or file. I wish I could do it in her sleep but she is a very light sleeper and needs the room to be very dark.

First, i LOVE your avatar pic!!
Second, I've been lucky so far with no injuries to my DD -- using my free hand, I kind of push the pad of her finger down, which pushes the skin down away from the nail, then clip.

I used to have to cut DD'd nails in her sleep. I was liek this is so uncomfortable for me to be leaning over the cri and do it that wasy that I just started to do it while she was awake I would have a show on for her and Iwould do them yeha she would squirm and cry and fight me but I managed to get it done now she will whine when she sees the nail clipper and until I do the first nail she wines but once the first nail is done I tell her see it didn't hurt then she is fine and I put cream on h er hands after and pamper her a bit and she loves it

I file too...DS is a bigtime squirmer and I can get a finger in here and there while he is running around.

I filed my son's nails up until he was eight months old!! I was afraid to use the nailcutter--however we have eased into using it now and it's not a problem--as long as Baby Mozart is on!
