cryobanks

Has anyone used California Cryobank or Fairfax Cryobank for donor sperm? Dr. Browne at SIRM recommended both of these banks; she said these are the two that SIRM typically works with. I have read some pretty negative reviews of Fairfax and mostly positive reviews of California, but I wanted to hear some more feedback.

Also, does anyone know how these banks can confirm the donors' reported family history? Do you just go on the honor system? Seems a little crazy, but I can't think of how else it's done...

Thanks for any feedback!!

Re: cryobanks

my best friend is in a same-sex relationship and her and her partner used California Cryo to conceive their son. he was conceived on their second IUI attempt, and was born on August 7th!
I dont know how the cross-checking backgrounds worked. I do know there is no mistaking the kid from the donor - the baby looks JUST like the donors baby pic that was with the info Chat Icon !!

Hi. Im a single mom by choicee. I looked@ both banks that you mentioned and many more. I narrowed it down to these two from many banks. I decided to use Fairfax in the end. I haven't heard anything bad about them. I'd be interested to see what you read. My RE is RS of NY and they spoke highly of both and said Fairfax was excellent, top of the sperm banks with A LOT of government oversight which I think is good and makes me feel more comfortable. I had 1 IUI that failed and then I got pregnant on my second. I lost the baby@ 10 weeks in August. I am now on my third cycle and my next iui will be on Friday or saturday. Now I will tell you that on my 2nd iui I had a problem with the sperm count on the two vials they defrosted. Fairfax has a guarantee of over 10 million for each vial. One vial was 4.7 and the other was 6.2. My RE combined the 2 vials for the Iui and that was the cycle I did get pregnant on. My RE had to submit paperwork to Fairfax and they refunded 1out of 2 vials because their policy is no refund if you get pregnant. I argued that I had to use 2 vials to get preg instead of one. They easily agreed and refunded my money. I have had no issues with them. If you have any other ?s pls feel free to ask! Good luck!!

Re: cryobanks

Hey
Thanks for the feedback! I think most of the negative that I read about was related to that issue of the sperm count. I guess my primary concern is a healthy family history, but I feel that there is no guarantee for that which is frustrating. As of now, my RE thinks I'll probably be in pretty good shape to get preg. We are using DS b/c DH has azoospermia, so this is a complex, emotional process to say the least!
