Crusty eye: pink eye or symptom of a cold?
DS woke up this morning with a yellow crusty eye. He has been congested for a while. Is there any way for me to tell whether it's pink eye or just drainage from a cold? We got about 2 feet of snow yesterday and the roads still aren't great. I'd rather not go to the doctor if it's just part of a cold. TIA.

Has it continued to be wet/crusty now that he's up? If it was pink eye, it would continue to puss.

That did cross my mind, but he's acting fine and doesn't seem to have a fever. I also haven't seen any more discharge since he woke up.

ditto to all the above..
I would bring him in just to be sure.. sometimes they won't show the symptoms and yet that's what it is..
Hope he feels better soon!

DD always gets this when she has an ear infection/cold. The ped has never done anything specific for it, and it usually only lasts a few days.

DD has had ear infections consistently since the end of october. She has never had a fever and has never pulled on her ears. The doctors gives me eye drops and that clears it up.

Whenever DS has it, it is a ridiculous amount of discharge--as soon as I wipe it, it's back. I think if it clears up during the day, it isn't pink eye. JM non-MD opinion. Hope he feels better soon!
