crib bumpers

How many of you used regular bumpers, breathable bumpers or no bumpersvon your crib? Did you have any concerns?

I bought breathable mesh bumpers but they dont really offer any protection. And the way my dd sleeps it
Concerns me. But i heard its not safe for reg bumpers due to suffocation. I have quite a few friends who use reg ones so now im confused as to what to do.

We started with no bumpers when DD transitioned to the crib, but she moves a lot in her sleep, so she kept bumping her head and waking herself up. Also, her pacifiers kept falling out! We then put on the breathable bumpers, which help a bit. They provide a tiny bit of padding, but not much, and keep the pacis in the crib. She is still very active in her sleep, and I was considering putting the regular bumpers back in because as she has gotten bigger, she has been bumping her head more and more. My only concern is that she will try to climb up on them in a few months.

I used breathable and I was not at all concerned about her getting hurt.
They really aren't going to bump up against a crib rail so hard that they will cause injury.
I was more worried about suffocation and SIDS.
To me, it was not a risk worth taking.
I slept better at night knowing she had the mesh ones.
She never once got any kind of bump or bruise from her crib.


ETA- and I might be wrong here, but I do believe regualr bumpers are actually OUTLAWED in some areas... I think I read something about Chicago maybe?
I would just rather be over cautious with something like this

I responded on the other thread but as an infant, I didnt use any.

Then I added breathable ones when DS was about 7 months to keep in the pacifiers but now at 17 months Im back to not using any again. I just hate changing the sheets with a bumper.

DS wears a Halo sleep sack still so he doesnt get his legs stuck in between the rails and he has never woke up from hitting his head. Thats a risk Id rather take than the alternative.

I bought the breathable ones but now I am starting to have concerns that he may hurt himself because there is no padding, he is rolling around like crazy in his crib!

As an infant I didn't use them. After DS was about 6 months old, I put his regular bumpers in his crib bc he would wake up 3-4x during the night from hitting his head.

I use/used breathable bumpers with both of my kids. They don't offer much protection from bumps, etc. but like some other posters said, they're good for keeping binkies in the crib lol The do tend to slide down if they get their legs over them (which they do/did even with the sleep sack), so we've had stages with them both getting stuck between the slats but both boys learned how to get their legs out on their own in a week or two.

DD is 4 months and we use regular bumpers. She doesn't roll but just wiggles alot and does 360s in there. I think the suffocation thing is more of a concern for tiny newborns but not sure. I feel ok using them right now and think DD would cry if something were wrong. When she was in her bassinet she would sleep with her head pressed up to the side of it. I would always move her back to the middle and she would wiggle back over there and was fine. So i dunno maybe I am the odd man out but I feel ok with them. I do tuck them into the mattress the best I can.

Later in they may come out if/when she starts sitting and pulling on them.

we started with no bumpers. then we moved to breathable bumpers because they would get their hands or feet caught in the slats while they were sleeping. Now I think they are great at keeping pacifiers in the drib and not on the floor.

I used the regular bumpers right from the beginning. He was in his crib at 3 weeks and swaddled until he was about 5 months so he never really went anywhere.

I didn't use any bumpers in the crib. If I had to, I would only use the breathable ones.

I swore I responded to your post but I guess I didn't.... i use breathable. DD is a roller and a thrasher in the crib and she's never gotten hurt. she figured out how to remove her limbs from between the slats very quickly.

i did an informal and unscientific "simulation" of what it might be like with regular bumpers in the crib, in terms of air circulation. it was difficult for me to breathe - not impossible, but not normal. that made my decision.

We haven't/won't use any type of bumper. DD is 8 months.

Ughh, I haven't used them in her crib. She's 10 weeks this Sunday. I'm too afraid. I really want to though. I got a beautiful set but then they told me at the hospital and the dr. said no bumpers

Oh well better safe than sorry
