crib bumper question
DS will be 10 months old......do you think it is OK to put in the regular bumpers that came with his bedding? (He moves around a lot when he sleeps)

Re: crib bumper question
I'm sure you will find plenty of moms who will tell you not to worry and go ahead and do it, but I am a breathable bumper mom. I personally would not use regular bumpers.

Re: crib bumper question
It definitely is a personal choice, but I use regular bumpers. My aunt made DS's bedding and used a thin, but sturdy foam for the inside of the bumpers. DS isn't a wild sleeper, but if he was the bumpers are pretty secure to the sides of the crib, they don't flop over like I've seen some of the store bought bumpers do.

Re: crib bumper question
I don't have very strong feelings on crib bumpers either way, but one thing I will say to keep in mind, being as little man is 10 months.....
He may start to stand on them and try to give himself some leverage to hop over real soon

Re: crib bumper question
my DD moved around a lot in her sleep too. once she got really mobile at 3 months, I saw she was using her head to "move" around in the crib. I put the regular bumpers on then and they are still there at 8 months.

Re: crib bumper question
I would ask your ped. We asked ours when our little guy started rolling around all over the place and she said no. She said they wouldn't be able to hurt their heads badly enough on the crib slats to cause serious injury, and the risk of SIDS just isn't worth it. I trust our ped a lot, she is very reasonable and not overly conservative, so this really stuck with me. I personally won't use regular bumpers- breathable ones have worked great for us!

That's what I was going to say as well - we removed our breathable bumpers because DS was doing this with them (they'd crumple down so it wasn't helping in his efforts but, I removed them because there was no point anymore).

quick question....you removed them and put in the regular bumpers or used no bumpers at all?

Re: crib bumper question
I used no bumpers at all. Occasionally DS will bump his head on the side of the crib but, it doesn't seem to phase him.

Re: crib bumper question
Just wanted to add....
For me, using the breathable bumpers has absolutely nothing to do with preventing my DC from banging their heads on the crib rails. The breathable bumpers offer absolutely no protection from that.
The breathable bumpers are for making sure my DC don't get their arms or legs stuck in the slats while they are sleeping... plus they keep my DD pacifiers from falling onto the floor!
When my DD stands on the breathable bumpers, they completely crush down to the mattress and give her no ability to get higher to climb out.
Just wanted to give you my perspective on what I use the breathable bumpers for.
