Crazy Situation, Need Help
Long story short, DH's uncle (he's in his mid 60's) had diabetes. It got so bad that he was bed bound. He became depressed and was put on medication.
He's been in and out of the hospital, right now he's in. He has lost so much weight, it's not funny. He is so doped up on meds that he can barely talk. BUT his diabetes is under control from the weight loss.
It seems so simple to just take him off the meds that he doesn't need to help him come back to normal. Everytime you bring it up to his wife she won't entertain the thought. My MIL looked up his psych dr and found that he has a rap sheet and was caught doing drugs with a patient. She told her SIL and she screamed and yelled at my MIL to mind her own business and that she doesn't want to see her anymore.
Now DH's aunt is taking his uncle to another hospital for shock treatment because she says he's depressed. He can't talk, so how the hell does she or the quack dr know that? I'd be depressed too if my DH kept me drugged!!!!
Also when he was home with her she kept his hospital bed in the dining room facing a wall instead of in one of their many rooms that faces the ocean.
DH's whole family is sticking their heads in the sand and won't do anything to help. DH's uncle also had no children. DH is so upset and outraged that this is going on. What is shocking the man going to accomplish?????
What can we do? Either she has completely lost her marbles or she and this "dr" are trying to kill him. We don't have money to hire a lawyer, but I really think that power of attorney should be taken away from her. We don't know what to do.
Neither DD nor myself has ever met him because he's been "sick" since I've known DH. I'd really like my first and last meeting with him NOT to be at his funeral. I want DD to know her uncle.
Does anyone know what we can do? Time is running out fast here.
TIA

Shock treatment? Too extreme for depression.

Shock treatment? Too extreme for depression.
Not always true, for refractory depression, resistant to meds and therapy, i have personally seen the before and after success stories and it is incredible. It is not right for everyone though

Re: Crazy Situation, Need Help
i'm sorry that i'm just reading this now...
if he is currently in the hospital - can you or DH go and talk to the personnel there and NOT allow him to be released to the wife? If the situation that you just wrote about is explained to a caring nursing staff, they can likely call in a social worker, or SOMEONE to talk to the people....(maybe??)
