crashing - breast pump help

I plan to ebf while I am on maternity leave, but I would like to have a pump for occasonal use, if needed.
My work provides a lactation room with a hospital grade pump (medela symphony) that I can use once I return to work full time. All I need is the accessory kit. Would a single electric pump be ok (Medela swing) to have at home for occasonal pumping or should I just spend the extra $ to get the medela in style?
Any one have experience with the medela swing?

Re: crashing - breast pump help

Can you get your free one through insurance? I believe MOST everyone is entitled to a free breast pump because of the Affordable Care Act. Unless yours was grandfathered in.
If so, I'd just get a free electric one.
Some people have been able to get the Medela one free. They were back ordered when I needed it so I got the Ameda- though I liked the Medela PIS my friend lent me way better. But it was nice to have a back-up.

Check with your insurance. You should be able to get a pump in style covered.

My insurance provides the medela swing for free or they will reimburse me $100 if I choose another pump. So if I get the medela in style, I need to pay partially out of pocket. Trying to see if a single electric pump is good enough for occasional use.

Personally I would get the double. I also planned to ebf but when I went back to work dd started preferring the bottle over the breast so I ended up ebp instead. I pumped both at work and at home.

I agree! I also love the Medela hand pump. I found it was faster and easier to hand pump!

i would personally go for the double. i would pump for 20 minutes at a time with a double....which would mean 40 minutes if i had a single.
i didnt pump much outside of work but when i did, there were times i was at a wedding, or out to dinner and a movie etc...the extra 20minutes adds up

Re: crashing - breast pump help

def get a double pump, and the handsfree bra!

and definitely call your insurance to see if they will cover all or a portion of it for you.

Re: crashing - breast pump help

Definitely pay for the double. You don't want to have to sit around to pump each side separately and you don't know at this point how much or little you'll need to pump and it's better to be prepared.

I would 100% get the single. A hospital grade pump at work is going to be amazing. Once i went back to work I never pumped at home, so a double would've been a waste for me.

I'd get a double. Single is going to take double the time, even if you're only using it on occasion.

ETA: I had plans to EBF and it didn't work out so I EP. I would have been screwed without a double electric pump!

I'd spend a little money for the double, it will be worth it.
