craigs list question

i recently put a piece of jewelry for sale on craigs list. I just got a msg on my phone from someone who is interested.
How would you recommend setting up the payment? Should i have him mail me a money order and as soon as i receive i'll send it out?

i didn't think about the actual sale part of this. I sold my car on there but the guy just came here and picked it up!

Re: craigs list question

DO NOT accept a money order! There are huge scams out there with Money Orders right now.
If you got the e-mail very quickly after you posted, it most likely might be a scam.
Arrange for the person to meet you in public and only accept cash.

Good luck and be safe! Chat Icon

Re: craigs list question

If you are going to met the person bring someone with you, if not accept the money order and go to a bank to cash it. A bank will be able to tell you if it can be cashed, do not mail out until you have cashed mo.

Re: craigs list question

only accept a postal money order- you can cash it at the post office

aviod using your bank- if the money order is fake-- then they money will be taken from your account

it's hardest to fake a postal money order

Re: craigs list question

I agree with Beth - if you are going to get a PO make it a Postal Service one...
but I have also heard that when you bring it to the bank it will "clear" and then you get a notice a few days/weeks later that it was a fraud and they deduct it from your account (+ fees!)

I say cash! Chat Icon

Re: craigs list question

p.s. I am not trying to be the difficult one, it's just that I hear a lot of bad stories and I would hate to have you fall into one of these scams when I can try to help! Chat Icon
