Cow's milk question
Hi all! DS just turned one and we're introducing cow's milk. We are also still breastfeeding. Our doctor said we can just give him CM without mixing it, and he's had it a few times in both his straw and sippy. He had a few sips, didn't seem to love it or hate it. I was just wondering when you give your DC milk. In between meals as a snack? During meals? DS drinks water well through a straw and seems to like it. We have been offering water during meals. Should I give him milk in a different type of cup than his water cup, so as not to confuse him?
Thanks!

Re: Cow's milk question
I give milk in the same cup, and I give it as a snack. At around 1 year, they need less than 2 dairy servings to quality their calcium requirement. So they really don't need much, and if the are eating yogurt and cheese, they may not even need it at all.
How much milk do they need
My DS acted like he hated milk, but he also hated formula, he drank only enough so that he wasn't thirsty anymore.
Around 14m he started to get really picky about food, at 19m its a struggle to get him to eat anything, but he's gulping down milk like its the greatest thing on earth. I actually have to limit it now, and I never thought I would, I really thought my DS hated milk.

Re: Cow's milk question
The recommendation is about 21oz/day. I replaced feedings with milk, so milk cup upon waking, before nap and before bed. I give 6oz/serving, sometimes they chug it..sometimes they are not interested. You can also give 2 8oz cups instead of 3.

Re: Cow's milk question
Dd gets 2 sippys a day with milk. About 8-10 oz each.
At first first I rePlaced the formula bottles with milk which at 1 year we were down to 3 bottles but then she weaned off the nighttime one. So she gets 1 when she wakes up and finishes it with breakfast and the 2 nd one she gets in the afternoon after her nap with her snack water throughout he day and with lunch and dinner.

Re: Cow's milk question
Thanks all for the replies. Quick question...do you have to discard the milk that they do not drink, like with BM or formula, or can you just put what's left in the cup in the fridge for later? I've been throwing out.

I throw it out, unless, I drink his leftovers, or put it in my coffee, there usually isn't much and lately there is nothing left for me. Unless it has vitamins in it, cause that's gross and I don't know how DS can drink it
