Could she be done being swaddled?

My baby is 6 weeks old and I have swaddled her every night since she's been home. The past week or so, once she is wrapped up, she seems to grunt and strain -- almost like she is trying to break free. If she was sleeping before she gets swaddled, she wakes up crying and is difficult to put back to sleep. At her age shouldn't she still be comfortable being swaddled? She still has the jerky arms that I am afraid will wake her if she isn't swaddled. When do most babies outgrow swaddling?

I really couldnt tell you when they outgrow it. My son is 5 months old and is still swaddled. He cries sometimes and squirms when i put him in it but i've tried so many times to let him out and be free, and he will just not settle down to sleep. I would say if she is waking more being swaddled then maybe she is not a fan of it. Maybe try one arm in, and one out. I know its just not for some babies. Good luck!Chat Icon

Oh yes, she could be done! At a week and a half old DD decided she didnt want to be swaddled anymore. When we swaddled her she would take as long as it took grunting and squirming and fussing until she got herself out of the swaddle - and she did it every time, even if it took 1/2 hr to do it!

Hayley was swaddled until she was 4 or 5 months then I went back for a few weeks when she was 7 months. She is a very restless sleeper. I had to finally stop because she was trying to roll over while swaddled, then I knew it was definetly time to stop.
