Cost of Flights !!
Is anyone else experiencing the fact that the cost of flights are outrageous !! ?? DH and I wanted to go somewhere in the caribbean for our anniverary at the end of May. At this point I dont even know if we will be able to go because the cost of flights anywhere are ridiculous ! For the 2 of us it would cost us a range of $900-$1200 to fly to anywhere in the caribbean , even Mexico and DR....DR would cost us over $1200
I can't believe this and there is really no way of getting around it either. Our anniversary is fast aproaching and I feel like if I keep waiting to book something the prces will just keep going up ! Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as myself, and what do you think is the best solution besides no got away ?!!

Re: Cost of Flights !!
I looked for Vegas in Sept/Oct and was shocked. My friends came out a few months ago - their round trip costs as much as my one-way.

Re: Cost of Flights !!
It is crazy. DH wants to go to Argentina to see his family and I can't find airfare for less than $1300. For our family of 4, that is $5200

Re: Cost of Flights !!
Keep checking, sometimes the prices fluctuate by hundreds of dollars.
Have you used Kayak ?
They say that booking int'l travel is best 3-6 months in advance, although sometimes you can find last min deals.
The worst part of int'l travel is the tariffs, taxes, and fees. We spent 1,000 each for our flights to Berlin-Paris-Home. The tix were only about $500 - the rest was the gov't fees!

Re: Cost of Flights !!
We started looking at airfare to Aruba last weekend. The flights we wanted was about $520 on Saturday, $580 by Tuesday, and $607 on Thursday, when we finally bit the bullet and booked! We were scared of it going up more. I use kayak to compare prices across airlines.

Re: Cost of Flights !!
I hear ya, I wanted to go to the Bahamas or Bermuda but was so sticker shock by the airfare cost that I cancelled it.
I would have been less expensive for my family of 3 take a cruise to the Bahamas or Bermuda than for airfare for 3 people!
The only way to avoid it is really just be more flexible with your travel dates (even a day or two makes a difference)
Kayak will allow you to see the airfare cost will be if you're flexible.

Re: Cost of Flights !!
YES! Back in January, I thought about booking some flights to Europe for this Summer. I was shocked. I mean $1500 for a direct flight to Paris. INSANE!!!!!

They are insane! And I dont think as you wait that they will get any better Altho in your search try looking at single flights rather than rount trip. Oddly enough you may find it to be cheaper.

Re: Cost of Flights !!
I totally agree. We contemplated taking the kids to Disney this year, it would be our first time taking them there. Well, with the cost of airfare for the 4 of us, plus of course hotel/park admission/etc, that would be the ONLY trip we took this year.
Using the same travel budget and NOT flying, we're able to do 2 long weekends, plus a full week's vacation (to places within driving distance). Needless to say, Disney can wait
