corpus luteum cyst

Hi,
The doctor called to tell me my first ultrasound looked great! She also mentioned I had a corpus luteum cyst, but that is not a problem. I'm kind of scared, what does that mean, is this going to cause major problems? Any help or info is greatly appreciated. I know if I google it, I will freak out if I see any horrible notes on it. Thanks.

I could swear my doctor told me in the beginning that these cysts actually help sustain the pregnancy.Chat Icon

You know, she did say "we like that" and I think it was b/c of the progesterone it produces??? I am soooo clueless. I just happen to recall that later after we got off the phone that she said "cyst" and I freaked. however, they obviously are not concerned about it, but I worry about EVERYTHING!!! Thanks for replying. I am hoping this is common and I hear from many who know of this.

Re: corpus luteum cyst

I had one in the beginning and it dissolved on its own by 10 weeks. It is not a big deal, it was just an overproduction of hormones. It isn't a bad thing.

Re: corpus luteum cyst

Its actually the same follicle that released the egg that was fertilized. They'll keep an eye on the size of it through your first few sonos, but its totally normal.

Thank you - just hope it's nothing.

I had one with both pregnancies and they are quiet normal actually. Mine both got smaller by the time I was 12 weeks and were not checked again since they were shrinking.

Yep - I have one too...my dr. said I'm supposed to have it. It produces the progesterone to sustain the p/g before the placenta is formed.
