Corned beef recipe
I don't eat it (I'm a bad Irish person) but my parents will be here this weekend and my dad is insisting I make corned beef and cabbage. Anyone have a traditional recipe? I know they sell the spices in a packet but would prefer to do it from scratch if possible. TIA.

Corned beef recipe
Those spice packets aren't enough. I get a jar from McCormick of the pickling spice. I use about 1/2-3/4 depending on the size of meat. I add 1 quartered onion and water. I cook it on the stove. Add some potatoes towards the end (depending on size/type).
ETA: Sorry, not a cabbage fan.

Corned beef recipe
I just made it for the first time yesterday and since we like it traditional too, I just followed the recipe on the package. Place it in water and bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 3 hours. I added an onion and some potatoes and carrots for the last hour. Let it sit off the heat for 15 minutes before slicing. DH and I both enjoyed it!
