Cops/Fire/Ambulance next door??
My neighbor next door is having an oil leak the FF told me in the basement. Should I be worried? It looks like they brought in a new tank and are siphoning from downstairs into the tank outside.

I would think if there was a danger they would have evacuated the area.

I think you should be okay. Same thing happened next door to us on Easter and no one even came to talk to us. It was an outdoor tank. I did see the fire marshal come at lest once a day or two later so I think they monitor everything to make sure it's appropriately cleaned up and safe.

Re: Cops/Fire/Ambulance next door??
Oil is not as combustible as gas. Our oil tank was leaking and when they came to do a delivery they notified us that they couldn't deliver any oil until we got a new tank and the EPA came out to make sure it hadn't leaked into the ground water.
But never did we have to evacuate.
If it was natural gas I'd say get the eff out. Oil should be ok
Not sure why the cops and FD and ambulance are there though. A home heating oil leak is far from emergency but then again, this is Long Island so............

I wouldn't be worried about an immediate danger, but I would want to make sure that no oil seeped into the ground. If it did, you may have to monitor to make sure it doesn't seep onto/towards your property

Yes. Anytime this happens though, the EPA has to be notified.
They will come and test.
If it does seep, the homeowner who had the leak is responsible for clean up and remediation

They should come automatically. Do you know your neighbor? Can you ask them if the EPA has been notified? (Might actually be DEP, not EPA - I forget which one gets involved)

Re: Cops/Fire/Ambulance next door??
For us it was the EPA. And yes the oil company is required by law to notify them
