converting thermostat
anyone here gone from the dial thermostat to a digital one?
did you have to have electrical work done?
what kinds of holes had to be made in the walls (if any)? we have plaster, so we're a little worried about that part of it.

nothing big. The wires do the same thing. I have a programmable and I swapped it out a few years ago.
You can follow the instructions on the new one.
You shouldn't have to rewire.

its easy.. my dh did ours in about 10mins. we needed to ncut a bigger more rectangular hole for it but the directons are easy to follow.

We had it done while having a bunch of other electrical work done. The electrician said it depends on the type of line that is running to the old thermostat, if it's low voltage they might have needed to convert it to regular voltage.
