COnversion Kits and Built to Grow Cribs

Just wondering if you have to purchase the kits from the manufacturer of the furniture to transition the built to grow cribs from crib to toddler bed and toddler bed to full bed or if there is any way around it- like some generic version you can buy ?

I have the Stanley Young America Isabella crib.

It seems less expensive to buy a totally new toddler bed than the kit!

I have a Stanley Young America crib and I can't see how you would be able to convert it with anything but the coordinating conversion kit. The kit was pretty cheap when we got it, although we used Direct Buy. But honestly, it's a nice expensive crib and IMO, it's worth it to buy the conversion kit over a cheap toddler bed.

If you don't want to get the conversion kit I would probably just go right to a twin bed instead.

We just converted DS's Munire crib to a full size. We purchased a box spring and mattress. The bed apparently is intended to be a platform bed but only came with 6 slats. DS is light right now so the mattress doesn't sag but as soon as DH laid down to read him a book one of the wood pieces cracked. If it is supposed to really be a lifetime bed it shouldn't have happened and it should have more support. Sleepy's came to get the boxspring since we cannot use it and even said the bed is poorly designed. The delivery man said platform beds should have way more than 6 supports. We have to go to Home Depot this weekend and add supports to the bed. I guess I would check out the conversion kit and find out how it converts to a full size bed. Make sure it is supportive for a child and adult or IMHO it is not worth it.

I also have a Stanley Young America crib-- I purchased for my first child, and got the toddler bed conversion kit at the same time (I think it was an extra 175). The kit is still in the box because we never converted for DD because I had DS and I put her in a full size bed. When he's ready, I will convert his bed to the toddler bed. I am happy I bought it because they have since altered the crib slightly, so if I bought conversion kit later, it may not have fit-- although it's been over 4 years and I havent used it yet (kids are exactly 3 yrs apart), so I am sure we would have survived if we just bought a bed for DS when time came.

I will say, I researched and you can use the back of the crib as a headboard only for a full size bed. The full bed conversion gives you the foot board, which is obv not necessary, so I plan for DS to use it as the headboard if it still looks good when he's ready for a real big boy bed-- but he's only 13 months so we have a while...
