Contractions after D&C *UPDATE - The saga continues...*
Sorry to keep asking D&C questions, but I just don't know where else to turn... (Thank you Pennycat for your support, just wanted to get some more opinions. )
I had a D&C on Monday afternoon. I had lots of cramping on Monday night, but no bleeding. On Tuesday I didn't have any cramping or bleeding at all. I thought this was the greatest thing ever... it was over and I didn't have to deal with the bleeding/pain/etc. Wellll, all hell broke loose last night. I started having INTENSE contractions to the point where I could time them at 3-4 minutes apart. This went on for hours and I finally got some sleep at 2am. The pain has continued today and I already feel them intensifying and I'm dreading the rest of the night...
I called my OB this morning and he told me that unless I am having heavy bleeding (soaking through pads...) or a fever, that I just have to deal. He told me to take Motrin but it is doing nothing for me!
Has anyone experienced this? I thought having a D&C was supposed to eliminate this craziness. I literally feel like I've been in labor since yesterday! Any advice or any ways to help manage this pain?
Sorry, this is longer than I expected it to be... Thanks ladies.
*UPDATE*
Soooo the pain intensified last night into today. It got so bad that I had no choice but to go to the ER - I could barely stand up or speak. They did a sono at the hospital and determined that some tissue was left over... that is why my body was flipping out and contracting so much! Instead of doing a repeat D&C, they prescribed Misoprostol so I can pass it on my own. I am SO annoyed and frustrated. I opted for the D&C to avoid having to go through a natural miscarriage and now I have to go through BOTH. Unbelievable.

Re: Contractions after D&C
Totally normal. My OB mentioned having contractions up to a week after your D&C. I only experienced contractions during a natural miscarriage and for that reason, I always requested a D&C and I never had them like I had before. IMHO, it was horrible. They lasted a couple of days, more intense the first day. Your uterus is contracting to get back down to size, so makes sense that you'd feel some sort of pain. For me, the contractions were heavier because I was bleeding more the first day. Tylenol didn't help much but the heating pad did. I also switched positions with being elevated or trying to walk through it. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. It's just a terrible feeling. Keep track to make sure your not loosing so much blood or if you feel sick, fever, chills, etc. Hang in there. It gets better.

Re: Contractions after D&C
Thank you!
Last night was just as horrible as the night before, I was 2 minutes from jumping in the car and going to the ER. If I had miscarried naturally, then I would definitely expect this. I know a D&C is to prevent infection, but that's about it in this case, since I'm going through this horrid pain anyway. I tried the heating pad and that definitely helped a bit, thanks! I'm not really bleeding that much, so I think I am good there. I'm still having pain today... I just want this to be over. I don't know how you all jump back on the TTC train so quickly after a MC, I give you all SO much credit. I pretty much told DH last night that I will never get pregnant again bc I can't handle going through this again...

Re: Contractions after D&C
I had the exact same thing happen to me, only I was bleeding terribly, soaking a pad every hour. I think it was three days after the D&C. And yes, it is like miscarrying naturally, as I miscarried naturally during another time. I insisted on going back to the dr because I feared infection. He thought it was an outter fibroid pushing through , which every dr I saw after and told that to actually laughed and said that was impossible. I personally thought that there was tissue still left that wasn't taken during the D&C and my body was trying to get rid of it.

In the beginning, when I used to get pregnant on my own I was pregnant two times after miscarriages. None of which were TTC pregnancies but just happened. (Totally my luck, I guess) After a miscarriage, my cycle is more normal than it's ever been. Wracks my brain, literally. But then another 4 losses and 6 IVFs later, you just do it. Despite the physical pain and the emotional overload of loss, grieving and healing, you find a way to move on, to accept miscarriage as a part of your life. For me it was that yearning I felt, my dream to be a mother that truly outweighed anything else. To tell you that I would do it ALL over again, just to have what I have now, is not a lie. It speaks volumes because I would have never thought I could say these words. Give yourself some time to cry, grieve and eventually heal. FM me if you ever need to talk.

Wow that's terrible that you're going through this AFTER a d&c.... A natural miscarriage is definitely pretty traumatizing. Let me know if you need anything.
