Contract - Signed vs Accepted vs Effective Date

Not sure where to post this... but would appreciate advice/opinions.

I filled out an application on 12/22.

The company representative took this application on 12/22.

A few days later, if I was to fill out the application again one of the questions I would have to answer 'true' to would cause my application to be rejected.

The effective date on the application is 1/1, and if I had to fill out the paperwork today I would still need to answer true to that question (which would cause my application to be rejected).

Today in the mail I received acceptance paperwork with an effective date of 1/1.

Is my application now void? Or is the fact that I filled it out, signed and dated before the change good enough? I'm confused because the answer to the question changed between my submission and effective date.

Thanks.

Depends what is in the contact. Is there language regarding pending applications? There should be some exit clause.
