Re: Constipation in a 2 week old
leg exercises - bicycle his legs and push in on his tummy lightly.
tummy massage (slight pressure).
bring his knees into his chest pushing SLIGHTLY...with pressure, but not too much.
prepare for MOUNT DOODY - we did this twice for Emmy and WOWZA!!!!!!
if that fails - you can always do the thermometer....lube it up and insert in touche...

Re: Constipation in a 2 week old
Its actually normal. As long as they are not pooping hard nuggets, then it isn't constipation. It happens from time to time as LO's get adjusted to formula/BM.
Don't stress unless your LO is in distress.

Re: Constipation in a 2 week old
When this happened to us (and it still does sometimes at 10 weeks) we were told to take a thermometer, lubricate it with vaseline, and insert it in his tushy just a little and to rotate it a bit to stimulate the area. With my DS I have to do it for at least a minute and even then doesn't work great. It was scary to do at first but it doesn't hurt them and gives them some relief.
Over time we found that our DS needed something wider than a thermometer to really help him go so I insert the wide tip of a glycerin suppository and he'll go right away (its not the glycerin that helps him - i don't leave it in there)
ETA: DS wasn't really constipated, his poopie wasn't hard, he just didn't know how to go. They tend to squeeze the anus when trying to push at the same time - its a learning process for them

Re: Constipation in a 2 week old
my dr. said that it has to be 3 or 4 days to actually be considered constipation
i have done the thermomether and vaseline plenty of times!
or the nasal aspirator with warm water in it; works like an enema
