Confused....with Update
I had bloodwork and a sono yesterday. I had a 13mm follicle on the left side. The nurse and the doctor didn't expect me to surge until Friday. They had asked me to start using OPKs today and I got my smiley. How is this possible if the follicle is immature?
Update: I "asked nicely" for blood and a sono this morning, before the IUI...the follicle was 14.5mm (there were other smaller ones... 12, 10, and 7.) We met with Dr Trivax who explained the OPK was a false positive, and that I didn't ovulate (my blood hasn't come back yet, but I've definitively surged in the past). We canceled the IUI and he called in an RX for an HCG trigger.
I just wish the nurse would have listened to me yesterday and 1. Let me speak to a doctor, and 2. Let me postphone the IUI -- I have an appointment for blood and sono Saturday, but it looks like it'll be Sunday or Monday for IUI.

Re: Confused....
how coem they are not monitoring you through ultrasound and telling you when to come in so you can trigger? your paying them to do a service for you, i wouldn't want to rely on OPK's at this point

Re: Confused....
You could surge for 2 days and not release the egg until Friday. Did you calll and tell them? I would ask to come in and check the follie.

Re: Confused....
They did an us yesterday, which is why I know how big the follicle is. I called to speak with the dr, got nursing on the phone...They told me to come in anyway, and they'll do a blood draw prior to the IUI.

If they do a blood test before the IUI, they still will need a few hours to get the results back.
With IUIs, I think it's always better to trigger. This way you KNOW you are getting everything timed right. 13mm seems way too early to be surging.

If she is doing home detection of her surge, I have to almost assume she is not using HCG to trigger. If that is the case, it is not a situation where you are monitored as heavily as a medicated cycle.

It's a natural cycle...No trigger. To add insult to injury, I did the OPK again...no smiley.

Ok, that definitely makes more sense. I'm so upset for you that they *almost* did an IUI that would have led nowhere since you didn't O. I am a patient of RSofNY, and love the doctors/nurses, but what I've learned is that you must stand up for yourself there. If something doesn't seem right, then maybe it's not... You did the right thing and I'm glad they listened and did the blood/sono first!!

Re: Confused....with Update
i'm so so happy that you got another sonogram before your scheduled IUI! if you had gone through with the IUI, odds are that the follicle would have been to small to take. Your in much better hands now i feel that you are going to take the HcG trigger because you can time the IUI perfectly!
Good LUCK!
