Condo or Townhouse?

Which is better to purchase a condo or townhouse?

Also, can someone recommend units in Suffolk County, in or around Bayshore, Islip or Hauppauge?

My mother-in-law is looking to spent 270 to 350K.

Thanks

I think that around here, they're called townhouses. they're pretty much called condos everywhere else.

Re: Condo or Townhouse?

I think of a townhouse as a 2 (or three story) attached home in a complex of some sort and a condo is one story in a complex. I am sure this is not the technical definition though. I think a townhouse is a condo but a condo is not necessarily a townhouse (i.e., townhouse is a style where as condo refers to type of real estate). Also, townhouses tend to have a private entrance and maybe a driveway and/or garage.

Which is better? Investment wise I don't think there is much of a difference but I found that townhouses were much more expensive. I wanted a townhouse but we couldn't afford one. In Westchester most were over 700,000 for newer construction. We went with a condo.

(i.e., townhouse is a style where as condo refers to type of real estate).

that is 100% true. for the most part, ownership is the same as owning a house, except we are attached to our neighbors.

Our condo complex (and yes, they are called condos around here Chat Icon) are styled in the townhouse manner - 2 floors, bedrooms and full bath on top floor, living areas and other bath on first floor.

The last I heard, 2 bedrooms in our complex were going for 350ish, based on condition and location.
