Computer question

my comp at home. everything is plugged in and appears to start up, the comp turns on monitor turns on etc. but on the screen it wont start up and says no signal.

anyone know what this means?

Sounds like it may be your VGA (Video Card).

is there a button on the front of the monitor that switches between inputs? I once had to "fix" a dozen new monitors because they were set for the digital cable, but the analog cable was plugged in......

Most new monitors can have two computers plugged into one monitor, and there is a switch to alternate which computer you are using. If it's on the other input, and there is no computer, you'll get this kind of problem.

This probably wont help at all but my monitor will say "no signal" when the computer is off and the monitor is on

Yes, but most monitors have two inputs. If your computer is plugged into input A, but input B is selected, it won't display.
